joha107....yes, it is news to the average person on the street, regardless when it first came out in April. Not everyone is interested in railroads and read the various trade journals and periodicals, or websites, especially local economic development leaders. When they do, it is usually too late. We...

The Courier Observer Newspaper (St.Lawrence County) had an article yesterday about the CSX application for rail service. Has the economic development people in St. Lawrence and Jefferson Counties all in an uproar. Article also states that this move would save CSX between 280 and 300k annually. Also,...

to VaCentralRwy... Forgot to put in my post....if you are in Norwood on a weekday, stop at the barbershop on Main Street and ask for the owner - TOM JARVIS. Has a wealth of information on local railroad history, and, has in his shop numerous old local railroad photos from Norwood / Norfolk area.

The NY&O enginehouse is at the end of Remington Avenue...just past the papermill... in the hamlet of Norfolk. It is a deadend street, and, the building is right there. Should not be a problem. When I used to work patrol they were a friendly bunch, but, that was before they became part of Vermont...

I did not mean to imply that any "excitement" should be derived by the rail
detection vehicle I saw in Canton, only, that one was spotted on this line.

Wed. Jun. 16 This morning at 6AM, saw what appeared to be a CSX rail detection car parked in Canton on the run-around track between Miner and Park streets. Did not know they owned / operated their own. Anything to read into this about the status of line, or, is it just something routine? What happen...

Anyone missing a "little" switcher? Sounds right. I remember when the "new"
Penn Central "lost" an entire unit train. That hurts!

Tues. Jun 15

Where is the SW8 today? Sounds like a game my kids used to play..."Where's Waldo??"
Cannot think of anyone south of Massena that would use it....major industries are all gone.

Well, that is a puzzle. Using a SW8 in road service? After my last post I was wondering
if maybe the unit was destined for Canada and the Customs paperwork was not in order.
Holding it in Massena then would make sense. But, now moving south....what gives?

The SW8 in Massena....would find it hard to believe that it is for Alcoa (Massena Terminal) unless they were going to move their older unit to one of their other facilities. I remember when that unit first showed up at the plant...early 80's....brand new. Yes, that is up in years for a loco, but, no...

thanks. Down to two or three days a week....we can only imagine what will follow that. I can imagine also that would kill most maintenance on the line if you are only running glorified locals. Where would they operate out of? They can't get a road train from dewitt to massena in 12 hours...what woul...

tues. 5/11 All this talk about CPR buying track....how does this affect the line thru St. Lawrence County? Do I understand correctly that crews / runs will be lost out of Massena, i.e. locals and road jobs? I have heard rumor in past 3-4 months from fellow workers who live in O'burg that Vermont Rai...

Thanks Scott....this info will be useful. Is there any "normal" running times / days for these trains? From the
sound of it, it would appear the crews have their work cut out for them....long days and lots of work.

Friday, Jan. 30-09 at 3PM What is left up here for trains on CSX? Am interested in anything in / out of Massena - northbound and southbound. What are the train symbols for these moves? Does Canadian National still come thru? In my job with the State Police, we get a lot of calls regarding crossing p...

Sunday, Jan. 4 Going to go back in time....back in the mid 70's to early 80's, I used to ride the Canton local (also called the CTSE) and knew most all the crew. Elmer Stark from Norwood was the regular engineer...Tommy Hurteau and Stanley "Corky" Farmer were the firemen (when one was avai...
