I think they just look more like their EMU counterparts, at least they're *slightly* more curved than their predecessors lol. I don't think the UK Electrostar or ScotRail Hitachi EMU look would really fit the NEC. I wonder if maintaining this form factor has to do with the ability to bury the cabs i...

Not a torque difference, but the speed at which it is available. With straight electric the power is there, while a diesel has to load first.

I agree, I feel like the cab should've been all red, but I can understand why they maintained the 'swoosh'

Siemens still has to build the ICT fleet, plus any other Chargers that are left from their list. As far as I know Amtrak hasn't contracted anything else with anyone. Their next item of business will be a new LD fleet to replace the Superliners, but I don't know if that's even been solicited yet.

What's interesting is that as a machinist, we can't touch the prime mover on these locos. Even emissions stuff will be contracted out to Cummins. I'm not sure how the Unions lets this just slide by In our industry we can work on the engines, and replace emission control components. If anything like...

The emissions system issues don't surprise me. I work in the ag equipment industry and the OEM's are still trying to figure out a system that really works. Of course it doesn't help with the engines being built by a different OEM than the chassis (both rail and ag), it just adds another complication...

Let me remind you that common sense is everything but... lol

What's the old saying? Ours is not to wonder why...?

I'm not quite sure how well Amtrak would fit in with the other two corridor users, especially with Brightline filling in the intercity/regional niche. Negotiating cross-ticketing between Brightline and SunRail would probably be the better way to go, giving passengers on the long distance trains conn...

I don't hate this idea, I actually think for First & Business Class it will work particularly well.

That said, it is reliant on passengers that are honest/knowledgeable enough to sit in their assigned seat. Does the app notify people if they try to scan in at the wrong seat?

Old crane sitting on a flat car in the line up. My friend wasn't sure if belonged to the quarry or the railroad. My guess is the railroad.

We went to visit our family friends in Canaan yesterday, and he and I took a ride to the Sand Road quarry for a tour before the Game. I didn't take any more photos of the siding, since his from the other day were excellent. I didn't see any kind of build plate or reporting marks on the center cab, b...

Seems that first of the new Metro-North chargers are moving along at siemens. One seems to be already painted at 2:29 Not gonna lie, when I first watched it I only saw the Amtrak unit in the front of the shot and thought "That's not Metro-North, wtf?" then after watching it a second time ...

Update on the incident we saw earlier this evening... The train was just pulling away towards ALB as we came back through, a half hour or so later after grabbing food in East Greenbush. The ambulance was also still there along with most of the police. Now that I'm home I'm able to share the street v...

Just drove past South Street in Rensselaer, just south of the station and saw a train stopped with a bunch of police cars and an ambulance. I'm guessing a trespasser got clipped, but I hope everyone's ok.

Lol good point, but I usually don't find the price to be too much different, especially when you consider you're only hitting three stops on the way and not paying for parking My wife and I like to see comedians and concerts in the city, so later trains aid in our determination on Metro-North vs. Am...
