Out of curiosity I contacted River Point Station about Rapido's announcement. They replied that they are still going to produce their model, and they apologized for how long it has taken them to produce their model.

I guess that Rapido figured that since the long announced FL-9 from River Point Station had still not been released (and probably never will be) that they would jump in and produce it. Also, since they have produced the FP-9 they already have the tooling for the correct EMD "bulldog" nose....
Actually, Metro North takes odd numbers as well if they are for third rail operation. If its even numbered then its for the A/C lines going to Connecticut.

T gauge is in proportion to G gauge as G gauge is to the real thing. Hence you could have a "G gauge" layout on your real G gauge layout.

Interesting for two reasons:
1. Its the FEC's first non-EMD power;
2. Its the first sale of the ES44C4 to a railroad other than BNSF.

Another feature that the Demo 1503 which was removed when delivered to the LIRR was dynamic brakes. On the demo you can see the screened opening for the dynamic brakes, while on the LIRR 1503 the screen is plated over.

I had the great pleasure of knowing "The Weekend Chief" for over thirty years, first when I worked at Right Track Hobbies, and then when I worked at Willis Hobbies. He was a terrific person, always friendly and very knowledgeable. He always valued input from others about the projects he wa...
since C420s are already in the talk i figured i'd just ask this here instead of making a new thread. was the LIRR the only railroad to get the high hood C420s? No: The reason for the high short hood was to provide space for a steam generator. Both the Long Island and Monongahela Railroads had the h...
I'm not sure whose passenger cars the LIRR could get, but for the locomotives I think they may want to consider getting some F59PH's since they use the same prime mover as the DE/DM fleet (12V-710G). Several commuter agencies, such as GO Transit, have been replacing theirs with new equipment, so sev...
Why are you going through so much trouble when you can buy a high hood Atlas B23-7 and just remove the cab? Externally the B23-7 and B30-7A are identical so the only thing is making the cabless section.

I just finished my first DCC installation in the P42 and I found a couple of things not clear in the Kato instructions: 1. If you want to control the marker lights you need a four function decoder with two extra function wires (usually green and purple); 2. The green wire needs to be soldered to pin...
UPDATE! Kata has posted instruction on modifying the P42 for DCC while using the stock light board (modified as well).

It seems pretty straight forward.

SoundTraxx just posted instructions on installing their Tsunami DCC/sound decoder into this locomotive. It is a very involved procedure.

Just so everyone here knows, the new Kato HO scale Amtrak P42 Genesis diesel locomotives are not DCC ready. The design of the new drive system and circuit boards prevents the simply drop in installation of a DCC decoder. I contacted Kato about installing DCC in these locomotives. Below is their resp...
