Can any of you supply copies or direct me to persons or museums that might have pre-1920 employee timetables for the C I & S, Indian Harbor and/or Indiana Harbor Belt lines?
At Conrail, I had the good fortune to work with R F "Bob" Bush, who was one of the last Chief Engineers of the Lackawanna. Sadly, one our tasks at CR was to help figure out what rail lines Conrail would abandon next. Bob pointed out that the DL&W has modernized its line to Buffalo with...
Do any of you know where to find, or have photos of Erie and/or Lackawanna Fast Freight Lines cars. These would be lettered Lackawanna Line, Traders Dispatch, Great Western line, Erie & Western line, etc...
Especially interesting would be ones from the Erie brad gauge era.

Can any of you advise about the operations on the Niagara Falls Branch prior to the Great War? Looking for track diagrams, signaling, stations, crossings with other RR's and if there were scheduled freights to go with the passenger service. Old employee timetables would be most useful. Especially us...
Can any of you direct me to information about Erie commuter service around Chicago up to the end of WWI? WJPowers
Do any of you know of maps that show the lines running East from Chicago? For an article I'm preparing, the best would be from the 1900-1920 era. WJPowers
Can any of you advise about Dave McLellan, co-author of LS&MS? WJPowers
The Drake well came in in 1859 and the oil boom commenced. Cleveland became a great oil refinery location. There were 35 or more refineries in the Forest City in 1872. Rockefeller bought most of them in that year. Prior to the buyouts, Standard Oil cut a deal with the PRR, Erie and Vanderbilt to spl...
Looking at the Equipment Register, the "D" before the number seems to indicate a car "Dedicated" to a service or customer.
I'm wondering if the "B.T." indicted the car had some type of truss rods included in the car bottom framing.
Looking at old photos of Lake Shore & Michigan Southern freight cars, I see many that have a letter in front of of behind the numbers. (i.e. "The American Railroad Freight Car" by John White p 323) Can any of you explain if there was a special significance to this numbering system? On ...
The NYC commuters lasted into the 60's, the NKP suburban service gone by 1920. Physically running right between them was the MC, what did they have, and for how long?
Looking at the digitized Hammond, IN newspapers, they seem to refer to all Vanderbilt controlled lines commuter service into and out of Chicago as "lake Shore" even though some of it operated over the Harbor Belt and Nickel Plate. The paper talked of "loop service" (and they did ...
This obscure road once was in the CH&D household. Are any of you aware of photos of the line, equipment and/or power? If so, can you direct me to them? WJP
Looking at the Nickel Plate 1905 Annual Report, I see the railroad spent over $9,000 installing a connecting track to the LS&MS on the West Side. This would imply more use for this connection rather than it all moving to Cloggville. In the year prior to this report, the newspapers were talking a...
Looking at the "Cleveland Historic Maps" pre-Rockport I see the West Park yard, but no locomotive facilities, only a wye. Seems unlikely yard engines would have come all the way from the lake front to do switching. Was there a shed or roundhouse at West Park at one time?
