This is really reminiscent of what the airlines did within the past 5-10 years since the 2008 recession. Cut domestic coach meals pretty much completely including transatlantic flights and flights to Hawaii. Cut free alcohol, where it even existed. Cut premium meals on shorter domestic flights, Redu...

Re: Amtrak Baggage Cars; Hauling Air and What Else??

A few weeks ago during NYP power problems I saw a long haul set (I believe it was the Silver Star) that "stopped" at EWR. I know it was very close to the end of the trip, but a quick glance in the baggage car showed only ~10 bags.

There were power problems at NYP last night (the 11th) at around 5:15pm. My 5:25pm westbound regional departure from EWR was ~2 1/2 hours late. They were stacking eastbound trains at EWR. For ~15 minutes two NYP bound regionals were tail to nose stopped on the eastbound platform and the NYP bound Si...

Re: SEPTA NPT card will be "SEPTA Key"?

I had my first experience with the Septa Key system this past weekend to the Villanova game at Wells Faro. Only did a quick trip so not the actual card you'd load and use regularly. It really feels like a system that should have been implemented 10-15 years ago. While it was easier than the ancient ...

One car still attached to the loco, one car dangling off the bridge, one smashed upside down on the road, one appears to be dangling a bit on the other side of the bridge, and at least one car on the ground on the other side of the bridge, That's 5 cars, how many cars are these trainsets? I hope thi...

The ROW between Norristown and Pottstown is owned and operated by Norfolk Southern. They're not exactly on board to have passenger service running along that segment of rail anytime in the near future. The only real talks for extension currently in SEPTA-land are Wawa and King of Prussia via the NH...

FWIW, it's just 1 unit. The other 3 are MARC.

Yesterday's WB Capital Limited had about 4 amfleet cars at the beginning of the train. I suspect headed to Beach Groove for much needed maintenance after the rush or back to the Midwest after the rush. Yesterday's WB LSL had 3 Horizon cars at the tail end. I suspect these might have been the Horizon...

The Juice cars typically number no more than 25 and as pointed out there are typically fewer. That said, despite their priority, I'm pretty sure CSX still has some delays getting them north and south. The scheduling logistics for Amtrak seems to be far more cumbersome than any benefit. Not that this...

I'm pretty sure the Clockers are not coming back. Didn't Amtrak (sell/lease/rent?) the Clocker NYP slots to NJT? At which point NJT started the Trenton/Hamilton/Princeton Expresses...which are very convenient by the way. Shame, that was the last time the Race St. was pretty active. Where as now it i...

A gel train ran on the Norristown line late last week, maybe Thursday night. I assume it was a test train, I haven't heard one since. Can't remember the loco #, maybe 61 or 71.

A few thoughts. Also keep in mind that it is not 50k jobs overnight. It's over the course of 10-15 years. 1.) If the NY is selected, the BSL extension will be needed immediately. The BSL Pattison terminus and NY Shuttle are convenient but the regular traffic on 95 between the airport and BF bridge a...

Empty steel slab train NS 61N came in at 2:30 with SD70M-2 NS 2735 and NS 2756 . I read in a recent Railpace that 60/61N will operate as normal after the Paulsboro port opening and there will be new unit trains (something like 63S) to handle the slab loads from Paulsboro. Have you seen/heard anythi...

Maybe I'm a sentimentalist, but can't we just stick with Penn Station?
