I was responding to your statement that "According to this Times article, to reach the Giants/Jets stadium from Manhattan, you have to change from the DL&W to the ERIE at Secaucus." From what I can see, the NY Times article doesn't mention predecessor railroads at all, it just has a li...
To be clear, it’s the PRR mainline from Penn Station NY to the new Secaucus Junction station, where you change trains (originally called Secaucus Transfer in its early days), then the DL&W Boonton Branch for about a mile, then a new S-curve connector for ~1/2 mile to swing over to the Erie (buil...
Hope this gives an idea of how far left the new tracks are from the old alignment. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230811/8982c94e8219a4117bd60fd26e86e5df.jpg Makes sense to permit electric utility crews to access the transmission line without fouling the track. To be honest, given all the recen...
Copper is used for low resistance, good for a lot of current going long distances. However, in this case the distance is short and the wire is big in cross section, presumably for ruggedness, so that the wire resistance might not be an issue. More significantly, junctions between different types of ...
Neither ties nor rail, Fairfield to Yellowbrook. I guesstimate 9800 ft, so needs close to 5000 ties. When I said working there, I mean rip rap and final roadbed prep. Have watched over the last 2 weeks as they slowly worked westbound from Yellowbrook. I guess that area needed some serious work. The...
There has been a truck and crew working their way to Fairfield from Yellowbrook for the past week or so. I guess they are remediating problem areas as that section is a little swampy in places. They seem to be about a quarter mile from Fairfield now. There is a ballast hopper parked at Okerson. Gue...
That's one heck of a study. Almost $4 for every person in NJ. I hope they get it right. JS
For a bit of family history about trips to the beach, I am looking for a timetable or similar showing the Mermaid in the late 1930's to mid 1940's time frame (if there was one then). More specifically, I am looking for through service (probably on weekends) in the summer from points west through Eli...
It's hard to tell from the photo: Yesterday I though the "North-South" connection between the line coming up from Perth Amboy then running up to Brills and Newark Transfer went up and over the main. But the more I look at the picture, it looks like they crossed at grade.
Who remembers?
Giving this a bump. Found this great picture online of what things looked like in 1984 - only ~6 years after Bayonne Scoots shutdown and 17 years after mainline traffic was halted good with the Aldene Plan going into effect. https://www.flickr.com/photos/jackdk/28243818423/in/photostream/ Quite a sp...

105 mph winds!
I hope no catenary towers were destroyed like what happened in Maplewood (Millburn?) on the M&E a few years back from falling trees.
Very interesting discussion. Public Service Electric and Gas Company ("PSE&G") was incorporated in 1928 by PSCNJ and in that year all electric and gas properties and operations were transferred into PSE&G and the bus and railway operations into also newly incorporated Public Servi...
I guess Fairfield Rd and Adelphia Rd just have to wait...
