I wonder what the bill is to electrify Long Branch to Bay Head, both for the catenary and electrical work, substations, etc, and separately more MU's or head-end electric power to avoid having to change trains. I imagine there have been "studies." Getting ahead of myself, but perhaps they ...

Westpoint, good questions. I guess the reason the cable cars are so much cheaper is that putting the “clasper” in each car or “train” if that is what they are doing, is a lot cheaper than a propulsion system in each car or train and associated power delivery. They still need power for lights, doors,...

Is this new electric power for the railroad, or just JCP&L in general?

Cool map. I might be having "deja vu", but I sure think this map (or one very similar) was posted and discussed here or over on the NJ Transit thread a few years ago. Does anyone remember that? Jim S And I'll add my 2 cents: - I am 95% sure the Mercer and Somerset was a continuation of the...

It made it to 33.7 feet. Officially into "major flood" territory, but well short of the 42 feet a few years ago...

Deja Vu all over again??? The Raritan River at Bound Brook is over 30 feet right now (moderate flooding), predicted now to peak at 32.4 feet, with major flooding starting at 32.6 feet. https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=phi&gage=bdkn4 Hope the link works. Yeah, I remember this announcement - seems like it was well over a year ago, but who knows.... I sort of remember hearing the "Barb" Branch extension shown on the map attached above was built, but it could be "deja vu".... And I can't remember what "Barb" is short for. ...

You have to do a back up move to get from the LV to the Port Reading branch, unless they rearranged the tracks there somehow. When did they (Conrail I assume) build the connector so that an eastbound on the Port Reading branch could get directly on the ex-CNJ (Chemical Coast) headed towards E-port?...

THanks everyone for clearing up the issue of it DOCK will really become a fixed span. I remember some posts years ago about how often they would have to open Dock to barge out the spoils from dredging upstream on the Passaic River to get all the PCB's or whatever out of the river bottom. Either that...

Not sure if this is the right thread for traffic from Staten Island. I,m no expert, but when the Arthur Kill bridge came back from the dead, maybe 25 years ago, they tied it in to the Chemical Coast, and all bridge traffic goes that way . So the chemical coast scanner channel is a good bet. Regardin...

Lots of special trains and charters over the years at NJT, but among them: Bergen Shore Express (1986-1988) through service from Suffern, NY to beaches. This was pre-Waterfront Connection, this train used a set of switches over PATH trackage between the M&E and NEC near Harrison east of the Cen...
