I'm betting that it will be safe for traffic and back in service by memorial day or heads will roll. Very little rail freight on the Cape especially in the winter and early spring months.
To give you a peek at how long some of these infrastructure replacement/repairs can take from identification to consummation in the Commonwealth, the Mass DPU reccomended replacement or heavy repair of the Cohasset Narrows bridge back in 1978. 40 years later, mission almost accomplished.
The biggest infrastructure problem with increased passenger activity from Springfield to Boston is not the Springfield to Worcester section. That area is a very simple replacement of the second track that got pulled up 30? years ago. It's Worcester to Boston that's the back breaker. Worcester is a h...
I have to believe that Greenfield to North Adams as a starting point for northwest passenger rail is going to happen only if and after Greenfield to Boston via Gardner happens. If rail travel from North Adams does actually happen and the Boston connection is via Springfield as someone has mentioned,...
if the price of scrap steel comes up to say $500. a ton, you can expect that all the underutilized trackage steel in westbrook will disappear.
sappi westbrook aka s.d. warren used to get as many as 15,000 cars a year. they have gradually downsized the former flag ship plant of sd warren to performing research, manufacturing small batches of specialty paper, and oerating cogen/bio mass power plant. in the process, sappi has eliminated all o...
As far as the Montreal to Boston service is concerned, Vermont is in bed with the Springfield center of the universe vision right now. However, you can bet your boots if a Greenfield to to Boston North station opened up they'd jump in bed with the Greenfield proposal so fast the pillows would fly. H...
The residents living between Greenfield and North Adams readily acknowledge that they live in the emptiest part of the state. We prefer it that way. Given the choice we would probably prefer to be part of Vermont. What's interesting is that the arguments against any thought of passenger service to N...
In this business, what is politically impossible today may be totally possible tomorrow. It's all about pressure.
For the past 40 years the state of mass has been desperately trying to devise various schemes to revitalize north adams which economically vaporized in the late 50s and 60s. At one point, they considered putting in a gambling casino on mount greylock. then there was the western gateway heritage park...
Berkshire East would die and go to heaven if there were ski trains. They're a three minute shuttle away from the Freight Main.
The biggest problem with having other than Hyannis on Cape train stops is that those other stops are not in Hyannis. Being the head of CCRT mr cahir is nobly trying to encourage the Flyer while attempting to feed that ridership to the transit authority. there is a problem with the intermodal center ...
The problem with the current Cape Flyer service is that the only Cape stop is in Hyannis. Hyannis may be easy to access by rail but it's hell to get in and of Hyannis by car. So for the 80% of Cape visitors who probably are going anywhere else but Hyannis almost any place else on the Cape would be b...
i believe that mgm has some sort of free shuttle service that i assume will swoop on down to the 75 million dollar bus and train station to pick up all sorts of gamblers.
