Thanks guys. I actually didn't even realize the Central Mass went through Rutland State Park, I actually drove over the ROW and didn't see it. But after looking at google earth, the ROW that was labeled as Rail Trail was actually something else. The one I saw was right at the intersection of White H...

Rutland, MA? (B&M Central Mass. Branch)

I was just out to Rutland State Park, which was once West Rutland, which in turn had been taken by the MDC back in the 30s to protect the watershed, apparently. Homes, businesses, farms, everything. I was there exploring an old prison camp ruins today and on the ride out, I noticed a sign that said ...

I was in Billerica last night, and didnt see the two budds listed to be there... All I found was several box cars, a really old flat car, and a main line snow plow in the trees. Funny reading this post, because at one time, I thought they were gone, but were actually almost invisible due to the bru...

Yeah, the one at the end near 93 is pretty cool, high up in the air. Most people don't realize that one is there. My dad told me that up until maybe the mid 1950s the line still existed up until Roosevelt Circle, a short time before that the line after that up to Stoneham had been abandoned. He used...

Little by little the place is being cleaned up for some reason, there used to be a lot more things inside the shop building, large EMD blocks, crates of brake calipers, engine valves, Hi-Rail equipment, and so on. That's mostly gone now. Maybe the lumber company is going to use more of the shop spac...

Some of the rails have been paved over. In most spots, there is no gap between the rail and the asphalt between the rail. There is no gap for the flanges of the wheels. From near Canal St. northeast to Main. St., the tracks have been filled in with gravel and fenced off with gates, and all sorts of...

Oh man you're kidding me. I've been meaning to go back and get pictures before that happened.

I'm so pissed right now if that is in fact correct.... :(

Last I remember seeing a train on the Saugus Branch was around 1998.

I know where it is, and I heard the same story. Thing is, how can they transport it there now, I heard that plan involved using the Saugus Branch to get the locomotive there.

Crazy that as little as 3 or 4 years ago you might have been able to get a train up that way if you had to.

Typical Malden approach to history...

That thing had names scratched into it from 100 years ago and they smashed it with a bulldozer.... :(

I think the South Reading line (Newburyport Railroad) is also really bad. For the most part the tracks are visible but the grade crossings are in bad shape. Most of the crossing gates have been hit by cars or trucks or snowplows and have never been replaced. I was over my friends house last Thursda...

Man I wish I had known about that! Must have been a cool site to see it in transport. I may do some recon to see if I can get pics of it...heh
