Everyone: Interesting WHAM report about this bridge over an abandoned CSX route... There was just ONE photograph showing the condition of the bridge structure underneath on a placard being held up by Senator Schumer which shows damage most likely from corrosives such as road salt... This bridge is a...

Re: Event Trains (Barclay and MSG/Penn)

Everyone - What happened to me just now is a FRUSTRATING problem that I can have with Railroad.Net - I was compiling and writing a reply about train service after MSG events and was asking if there was going to be flexibility enough that the LIRR would be able to hold trains after overtime games and...

SD - Interesting note and photo of the No Trespassing sign mentioning the RF&P instead of CSX... (off topic but intriguing...) A thought: Could RF&P actually still exist as a "Paper" railroad in legal terms? Makes me wonder about VRE riders that use Fredericksburg Station: Would it...

Re: New "East" Yaphank Station

TL: I figured that no SCPD Officers or staff used the LIRR with the limited Ronkonkoma-Greenport Scoot service... The service option is available for those without a vehicle that may have a need to visit SCPD HQ or other SC facilities in the Yaphank Station vicinity located both north and south alon...

RW: 1-What surprised me is that there were two PRR/PC electrified track segments that were very close to one another (The Washington Terminal trackage to the line past Virginia Tower to Potomac Yard) without being connected to one another despite only being a short distance apart through the First S...

Re: LIRR Request of Interest for Lease of Passenger Coaches

K&K: I believe that you are referring to the late 1960s/early 1970s era when passenger railroads were discontinuing service and surplus cars were available at reasonable - or even scrap - prices... The cars from varied railroads such as the Kansas City Southern made those years quite interesting...

GM: The most important problem with AC catenary being used in a tunnel with close clearances to certain types of equipment is that there MUST be enough space between the roofs of cars and the wire to prevent flash-overs - the best examples are the NJT Multilevels and LIRR C3 cars that run through th...

ZS - This MFSE car topic at minimum should be combined and/or in tandem with: "M5 Technical Specifications" which can be found below on this SEPTA Forum page https://railroad.net/m5-technical-specifications-t174242.html (9 posts - May 10, 2022 to January 3, 2023) (Caution - The Trains Maga...

AFC - First: This topic should be titled "BNSF Derailment - Cairo, Nebraska - February 9, 2024" (Cairo is in Hall County, Nebraska NW of Grand Island) There were THREE drone videos by KHFarms1 posted on consecutive days - all are of good quality and shows the derailment site and subsequent...

Hopefully Amtrak takes some steps to partially electrify corridors to help maximize efficiency and air quality around new airo routes. This takes the logistical nightmare of engine changes away. Maybe partial springfield corridor electrification or North station in Boston. Or the Washington D.C. tu...

JS - Glad you asked that question - MEDFORD (Mile 54.1)at NYS 112 N/S is the first station east of Ronkonkoma (48.5)... Holtsville was located at Mile 51.8 - closed in the late 1990s...I recall your mention that you once lived nearby... All stations east of Ronkonkoma: Medford, Yaphank, Riverhead, M...

JS - Good front end photo of Amtrak FL9 #485 - I remember this picture from my recent FL9 research for the 40th Anniversary MNCR heritage color schemes topic...There were only 8 FL9 units in the group rebuilt for Amtrak by Morrison-Knudsen (484 to 491) primarily for New York-Albany Hudson Line servi...

JS - Interesting news about advancing the project to move Yaphank Station eastward about 1 1/2 miles to William Floyd Parkway (Suffolk County Route 46-Runs from Smith Point Park and Mastic Beach south - passing the Montauk Branch Mastic-Shirley Station - north past the Brookhaven National Laboratory...

JS and Everyone: This derailment of these three tank cars looks to be one of those "Oh $#!+" moments (reaction from the train crew)...Were these loads or empties? Most likely this was at a low speed even though this tore up the track and car trucks/axles substantially... No real harm done ...

NET - Thanks for the David Paul videos from Frankford Junction...I knew judging by the equipment that this was 1990-1991 video recorded with a camcorder (hand-held video camera) on to VHS tape... The Metroliner cab car in its 1979 rebuild COLOR SCHEME* was a quick conversion removing the pantograph....
