Hi I see on Don Ross's site the following: "2439, C425, Class AF-25 was built in December 1965, #3433-03, as PRR 2439, Class AF-25. It became PC 2439, Class AF-25, in 1968 and Conrail 2439, Class C-425, in April 1976. It was renumbered 5073 in October 1979 and rebuilt by General Electric in Feb...

A feel for your loss, and the loss to all Alco fans around the world. That is indeed very sad.

Re: Canadian - How much baggage space?

Hi When Laura & I travelled the same route, we had a medium sized case plus some smaller hand luggage. Our other bags were in the baggage car, and that is out of bounds till baggage claim in Toronto. We had a bedroom, and I'm not sure how much space there is in the roomettes. Hope you have a gre...

Awesome research. I started to do this myself, but now I don't have to. There were reports somewhere that the alternator equipped units were uprated in the horsepower department, but I doubt this was the case, as there was no increase in radiator capacity to match the added horsepower. I believe the...

Another great job on the drawings, extremely useful, and very much appreciated by myself and no doubt many others. Just some further modifications to CPR's C-424's that are worthy of mention. In later years, a number of C-424's received alternators from retired M-630 and possibly M-636s. These can b...

Hi
No worries. The subject is scrapped Alcos. The LVRC had a few scrapped that would have past this spot numerous times.

That's very sad. I had a cab ride in the 1280 in 1985. Laura & I are hoping to be back in the area next year, and I was wondering if she had escaped the scrapper, so I could take some more photos for modeling purposes. In a related question, when the c-425m's were delivered, they had a blower (?...

We'll be in Chicago late in August. Where does the Badger sail to/from? Was it Kewaunee or Manitowoc?

Thanks for the tip. While in the States in 1980, I was lucky to catch the Chief Wawatam being loaded in St Ignace. That was cool.

Just wondering if any of Lake States rebuilt centuries survived the torch, or are they all gone.

Access to Bay View Junction?

Hi Laura and I are thinking of making another visit to North America, and one of the places we will try to get to is Bay View Junction. In my first 3 visits to Canada, getting to a good viewing spot was easy. However, in 2012 we were confronted with closed roads, fences, no parking areas and ended u...

Thanks for all the helpful replies. Our plans have been sorted a little more. We will likely travel to the U.S. in mid to late August, and the Eastbound CZ works better for our itinerary, may also use the San Joaquin to get to Yosemite for a day trip.

Thanks
Steve

Thanks for the useful info. We are heading to the Northeast USA for a birthday of a couple of Alcos. We will have to fly one way but will take the train the other. We also plan to drive round the Great Lakes on our way to or from NJ. Our visit will be in September, so the daylight hours will be down...
