Get a hold of your local chairman, or better yet general chairman. If he doesn't know the info, ask for a copy of the contract. Also get any newer appendix. This way, you can have a copy for yourself. You will also know what to claim. When you fill out your time, wou will know the best way to claim ...

In Ralph Fisher's book, "Vanishing Markers" some of the other jobs were: High Car, which went up the Western Route. It handled cars bound north of Salem, on the Eastern Route. It handled the cars that could not go through the Salem Tunnel.

I wonder what came first; the chicken or egg. I wonder if Guilford really had plans on this expansion. I wonder if buying railroad in poor shape, then selling of things was the real plan. They may have been the main alternate to CR/NS, along the lines of D&H being the alternate to CR, in '76. On...

The problems with the turbo come about in switching/local service. A 2 stroke needs constant pressure charging. On the turbo EMD models, this can't be accomplished at low speeds. The turbo doesn't provide enough pressure. This is overcome by having a clutch. It is engaged at low speeds, then the tur...

I get Railway Age. There is an as by EMD about the 710. I have seen something about re-powering older locos with it. I think it is targeted at 645 powered units, such as the SD40.

This is a real joke! When I went to engineer school, we had to take some test runs, on the simulator. It was more like Playstation than a locomotive. On the simulator, there is no feel. A good engineer know the state of the train from this. The simulator that I was on replicated SD40-2s. The company...

Dutch Rail Nut, I think that ConnDOT is just studying the signal project again, because it is another stall. They like ROADS. They have been brainwashed for years, by the politicians, who were in the Tomasso's pockets The Tomasso family owns a large road paving construction firm, for the non CT nati...

Enough of the stupid answers! They look for sometimes prior experience. Some companies don't, as they like fresh meat, which they can mold. Other companies like someone who has had long term employment, a college degree, or military service. These are signs that you will stick with it, through all t...

I had a close call in my probation period. I was still in training, and was working a local. We had set a car into a stub track. We then set a few cars back to the lead. When we went back to tie onto the car, the hitch did not make. The brakes did not hold the car, and it went over the wheel stops. ...

The samples on the site looked good. I know Norm. He is very methodical. It so happens that he is one man ahead of me, on the D&H engineer roster.

Tom, B&M had planned to make more from various dead units, like the last of the F units. Keep in mind that the slug program was before Guilford. The 300 class were kept in standard 3 unit sets. The slug was to remove 1 300 from each set, then have extra units handy. Before the program really beg...

Just because I have a regional, does not mean that I have to have others' junk. NYS&W had new power (-8, and sd 70). MRL just got the SD70s. Many of the road units could have been add-ons to bigger orders. One example is the Texas Mexican had the GP60s, which were added to a SP order. They proba...

I don't model the B&M directly. I base my operation as a takeover of Pan Am. I say that my company had been a part of the New Haven empire, when B&M was too. We were a jointly owned NH-B&M subsidiary, based in Albany< NY. When PC went into Conrail, and B&M was bankrupt, we went indep...

Many of CPR's new AC44/ES44 have a 120vac plug, on the side of the refridgerator. It is labeled so. It is handy to charge portable radio batteries and company cell phones.

IBy the time that I went into engine service, I had moved to Galesburg. Therefor, I never qualified on the passenger runs. I have worked that jobs in train service, and also run freights through there, in rush hour. The engineer is alone in the cab. He has to run the train, watch signals, and also w...
