OK, thanks guys. That was my feeling also. As it's unanimous, I'm not going to change it. sery2831 had suggested it moved due to the length of the thread, but I agree with all of you that the length also gives it a convenient place to look stuff up. sery2831 take note. :-D

... I believe that the Los Angeles area in the Hollywood Hills was the first American installation. I'm thinking of Pawtucket, RI, in 1931. Did LA get there first? :) I did a little sleuthing and found that you were correct in that there were trackless trolleys running through Pawtucket. In my &quo...

My Rail , you arent going to check ID's , are you ? I'm not checking ID's but when I check with your trucking boss and he tells me that you're old enough to have been playing with hoola-hoops, you're at the chalk-board writing "I will not drink what I'm carrying in back of my truck while I'm c...

The presence of a body attributed to "The Giggler"(Kenneth Harrison) down there, a child, didn't exactly put the place on the Freedom Trail. Here's Celebrate Boston's account; http://www.celebrateboston.com/crime/giggler-serial-killer.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return f...

I'm a member of the NY Division of E.R.A. and yes, they are an interesting group who hold meetings, sell publications, and make announcements regarding fan trips and tours. You'll get their periodical magazine which usually comes with flyers to railfan based activities in the NY area as well as the ...

Hi MBTA Fan - I'm assuming that that's your answer to Question #1, and it's really not what I had in mind. I'm looking more for the reason that they stopped. It seems like the 16 and under crowd is having a little trouble, so let's open this up to 21 and under, ok ?

As Mr. Norman notes above, corrosion of the carbon steel structure beneath the stainless steel sheathing doomed these cars to a short life. (Remember that they spent much of their lives exposed to the salt air along the Shore Line.) I remember at least one of them running in MBTA service about a de...

It's a win-win for the T as by law, the power company has to buy the power generated, which probably amounts to a credit on the T's electricity bill. A big advantage to buying, instead of producing their own power, like they used to do on 1st St.

Here's a quick Quiz FOR KIDS ONLY - 16 YEARS OF AGE OR YOUNGER . Marylou and myself went out to test the new trackless trolleys. We got as far as the edge of the power station parking lot on Harrison Ave. and we stalled. No power it seems. Marylou went to the rear, looked up, and saw that a pole was...

It's too bad the MBTA balked at it.... they could use the track sensors for a real time data feed for countdown timers. It would probably be less expensive than installing GPS in every car. I would have balked at it too ! It's very likely that the town of Brookline was going to set up the State (T)...

It seems as if you can be almost anywhere in the country now (and probably then some) and see old MBTA equipment. Most (if not all) are rusting away in silence. I exchanged a series of emails with a gentleman in East Troy, Wisconsin a few years ago who was running East Boston Tunnel cars as one car ...

No, the question was really if there were any spurs at the end of the B Line and there are- all inside the loop.

One person has suggested to me "the car yard at the end of the B line". Is there a spur there? Yes there are. There are multiple spurs. There is a loop for cars terminating and reversing direction and 8 spurs that originally eminate from that loop track, giving access to outside (6 tracks...

It would appear that the video was made by a youngster, so I think that we need to give credit where credit is due. Considering, he did a fine job. Yes, there are a lot of contradictions (street running), mistakes (Metropolitan Transportation Authority ?) and non-Boston expressions used. Is it simil...
