Yeah, I think that I over-reached with this one. I'm going to officially declare Teamdriver as the winner at 1/2 Point ! Yayyy !!! TD, our audience wants to know - How did you prepare for this momentous win ? Were years of intense academic study involved ? Did you boldly piece by piece dissect a pur...

Absolutely. Doyles is a happy provider of Anchor Steam Beer. By the way, don't let any bar floozy tell you that they use "steam in the manufacture" or other such nonsense. From time to time, they float little fibs ! I stood shoulder to shoulder in an Embarcadero bar speaking with a company...

Oops...I see leaf springs ! 1/2 point ! (I was intrigued by those "Walking Bars" and can see how they would reduce the force on an axle. Leave it to Mack. They were the Pullman of the truck and bus world. The MTA's 2200 and 100 series Mack buses were tanks (as were the GMC's). They junked t...

Two more ! Take note, if you are an O-scale streetcar modeler, this stuff should be easy. As a matter of fact, it's so out of print that I'll tell you my source for the pictures and that is the Wagner Car Company O-scale Trolley Truck catalogue, circa @ 1973. If nobody touches it by tomorrow afterno...

What is that, a cattle prod ? Wished I had had one of those when I first met my ex. OK, what is it that we love most on a Friday evening ? It's a Quiz !!! Yay !!!! OK, this one may be hard, may be easy depending on your background. I'm going to show you pictures of five truck sideframes used on BERy...

No, I'd probably electrocute myself, never having even seen one. No tasers are issued on BPD. I used to try to make up a makeshift one by having the opponent touch both terminals of my trusty 9-volt battery. I'll bet that they never forgot that !

Well done, Noah ! The Stony Brook really shaped a lot of Boston's landmarks. The Boston & Providence Railroad followed it when they layed their Boston-Providence Main Line. There is a great true story that I love that the J.P. Historical Society tells of a couple of guys, soon after the Brook wa...

That's a nice item and no, I don't believe that it is currently overpriced at $750 as I have seen stationairy signs of less historic value go for more. Just to give you an idea, a stationairy one-piece destination sign of historic value is usually priced at around $600-$1,000 at a show like Gaithers...

No, it was neither. Stonley Road has been through changes during its past, most as a result of tunneling the Stony Brook underground at this location. As Stonley Road and it's predecessor name, Stony Brook Road, it bordered the Arborway facility, and in fact was an entrance to The Arboway at it's so...

That second picture is not two foot gauge. The passenger car is too wide and tall. I agree with you regarding the dimensions of the box on that coach, Bunky, but I wondered if that could have been a standard gauge coach that was converted with narrow-gauge trucks. To back that idea up, I noticed si...

Allston and Dorchester are actually neighborhoods in Boston. :-) Allston is a lawless wasteland. Moreso or less than the old St. James St. Greyhound station was? All of Park Square for that matter. It gave the Zone a run for it's money ! There was mob oversight in the Combat Zone, not so in Park Sq...

I live in Boston. Many here do. I actually think that your incongruous statement is very misinformed. I recall as I travel about that often times someone will approach me, delighted that they found another "Bostonian" which they proclaim to be. When you ask them where in Boston they're fro...

It wouldn't impact braking distance much, you are greasing the flange of the wheel only not the tread which still sits completely ontop of the rail. You realize that a flange on a streetcar is roughly 3/8 of an inch in height, right ? Is your grease laser guided because any grease that I have ever ...
