After my bad day at 42nd St. two weeks ago I wondered when my next meet with law enforcement would be. I only had to wait thirteen days for another. I was on the shoulder of Derouse Ave. in Pennsauken where the NJT Light Rail RiverLine crosses that street, near to where the new station is being buil...

Please read my postings on the MTA Subway site of Railroad.net under Bad Day at 42nd St for another view of law enforcement. Thanks

Head End View; to answer your question I Googled "Is photography of subways illegal". and apparently some guy in Feb of 2010 in NYC did just that. When accosted he pulled out a copy of the MTA regulations to show the police. For his efforts (and presumed effrontery) he was cuffed and arres...

Thanks, Allan. I downloaded the file and have placed it in my camera bag along with the MTA directive. I just hope I don't get shot while reaching for it.

Head End: I actually did think of making a big stink of this but unfortunately I was close to a luncheon date with my daughter who was in town from San Francisco. You are right that getting their badge numbers would have been wise but I feared that noting them could have escalated the incident to a ...

First my newly puchased $10 Metro Card would not work and kept indicating "swipe again', endlessly. That should have been an omen. I took out a camera from a bag and went to photograph a stopped S shuttle train. Two oficers immediately accosted me with "photography of subway trains is forb...

Passaic River Rat: wouldn't the police be destroying evidence if they deleted pictures? I thought destroying evidence was obstruction and a felony?

This sort of thing scares the bejeezus out of me. What does it take to get onto a no fly (no train) list? Who knows? Not even the Feds know for sure what the guidelines are and once on, it's as forever as a temporary tax. There is no due process to defend oneself from the anonymous accusation, no wa...

I will be going from Philly area to Steamtown in the near future, probably a week day. To get there I need to pass by Pittstown. I have never been there. Are there good rail fan spots there and what might I see? Best time? Thanks

I found the map i was looking for (google colonial map new jersey. About five entries down you will see "you found it map of Nj 1769". it clearly shows the Old York road going north northeast out of Phila, crossing the Delaware near lambertville, going through Raritan, where it still is th...

I don't know for sure where the original roadbed of the Old York Road went after leaving Bound Brook. Of course it was to connect the cities of Phila. (where the original route is still called Old York Road) and New York so it probably proceeded east to a point on the Jersey Shore opposite NYC, I be...

P.S. If you go to Bing Maps and go to its greatest magnifcation as birdseye photo image look just to the right of the high tension tower and you can see some of the stone arches. The stone bridge marker has the bridge authorized in 1683 but not built until 1731. That 1731 date is the latest date pos...

The road is South main St, route 527. If you come from South Bound Brook you cross the Raritan, then the Port Reading branch and immediately on your right is a driveway to some company or trucking warehouse. That driveway now covers most of the original bridge deck and paving and when the building w...

If one is interested in bridges, really old bridges, just a few hundred yards from that RR trestle are the remains of the oldest bridge in NJ and perhaps the oldest man made structure in NJ. Right between the Port Reading tracks and the NJT tracks in Bound Brook is the olde right of way for the road...
