Bite your tongue!

Amtrak, add cars for an event? They sure don’t seem to manage passenger seats at all well.

So Amtrak doesn’t have parts for its Siemens cars, and has to cancel trains. link here:

American passenger railcars, from the time of the heavyweights, have had locks on the doors.

They are rarely used in revenue service, they are there to secure the cars from hoboes, thieve and other ne’er do wells in a coach yard.

Amtrak has signs everywhere, passengers do not operate doors.

For $1000 a night, I expect hand crafted martinis and a 14 Oz Kansas City strip. Amtrak no longer passes that test.

When I was in the workforce, I travelled from Kansas City to such exotic spots as Seattle, central Texas, or Watertown New York. If I could have travelled sleeper (the Federal Travel Regulation no longer authorizes it), I’d have spent 2 1/2 to 3 days in transit. Flying, I went from KCI to Cincinnati...

The watch this space website has no tag to investors, no tags for RFP to procure cars from existing private owners, in other words, not a damn thing.

Anyone care to bet this is the 2023-25 version of the “Marlboro Unlimited?”

Has Amtrak ever heard of this concept called “sections?” The passenger operator runs multiple Trainsets for a specific train and date, each one operating basically one block cycle behind its leader. UP, ATSG, NYC, PRR, NP, GN, CB&Q … they were all capable of, and DID it. Why can’t Amtrak? Oh, th...

Tad, I have to wonder what kind of prep GCRR did for that paint job?

- IAH - Houston? To be honest, if Houston is that spread out, it should have a subway or light rail system that connects all five "downtowns" with the airport(s) and big transit hubs. Amtrak and Texas Central High Speed would qualify as a big transit hub. But we don't have that there and ...

I don’t know what Amtrak did to the diagram pages, but if you don’t have a direct copy of the RFP, they’re worthless.

I spent eight years of my life commuting to Houston for certain tasks. The place is more spread out than LA.

Jeff,

Let’s be honest. A UP or ATSF 44 seat coach would almost count as First Class in Amcrap’s world.
