Re: CTA Historical Calendar 2022

Anyway to get a calendar? Or are we allowed to just copy? You can download the pdf file once it loads. I look forward to these calendars every year. One complaint I have is that some of the photos are recycled after a few years. I'm sure CTA has tons of photos it has never used for future calendars.

Revisiting NRL route to Newark Airport and Elizabeth

It was recently announced that the NY governor has put a halt to extending the NYC subway to LaGuardia Airport. This would have been LGA's version of Airtrain. Port Authority of NYNJ is apparently serious about finally extending PATH service to Newark Airport (EWR). Given the politics of the PA, I c...

How would a routing such as the very limited "Brownage" (Orange from Midway to Adams/Wabash then Brown from Adams/Wabash to Kimball) and v.v. be numbered? There are only a limited number of trains each weekday in each direction. By your proposed scheme would the northbound trains be number...

What's the latest on these cars?

My understanding is they are now in revenue service on the Pink Line. I guess two 4-car sets are being used.

In the original post, reference was made to high pollution levels near the Christopher St PATH stop. That station is only a few blocks from the NYC entrance to the Holland Tunnel and during pre-Covid times there were lots of cars jamming the nearby streets heading for the tunnel to leave the city. M...

Re: owl service Blue Line O'Hare to Rosemont

I wonder if CTA's allowing passengers to ride to O'Hare in order to get that $5.00/passenger surcharge going to the airport. Seems like a petty reason, but if they can squeeze extra $$ from the riding public, then why not? I don't know what it costs to bus people from ORD to Rosemont, but maybe it i...

owl service Blue Line O'Hare to Rosemont

I was on the CTA site and saw a change in service notice that between midnight and 4:00 am no passengers were permitted to board Blue Line trains at O'Hare. Riders have to take a bus to Rosemont in order to board the trains during these hours. BUT, passengers CAN ride the Blue line from Rosemont to ...

a question in these corona virus times

Recently I've been on the MTA NY subway tab of this forum commenting on how beginning Wednesday at 1:00 am the NYC subway will close until 5:00 am for deep cleaning every day for now. There's a possibility that change may become permanent. As far as I know, that would leave CTA as the only US rail t...

The graffiti artists are all going to have fun with this shutdown idea!!! Why? Stations are maintaining staffing, if you were closing the booths on the night tour entirely - which they are not - you would have a graffiti issue. A few weeks ago when things were really hairy and people were over doin...

NY subway cuts overnight service?

I saw a news story attributed to Reuters that the NYC subway will stop running overnight service on all lines to permit daily deep cleaning of trains. Patronage is down some 90% and this permits the agency to take this action. I went to the MTA site and looked to see if there was any mention of this...

I have a question concerning how Metra passenger car configuration. Entry/exit is through a single set of double doors in the middle of each car, one set per side. Passengers tend to congregate in the central vestibule for at least 30-60 seconds prior to their stop. A trainman or conductor is also p...

More than 8 1/2 years after my original reply to the original post on this subject I have the following observations and a few questions. Yesterday I was downtown walking along Wells St between the Quincy and Washington/Wells stations when I looked up and saw 2 trains, both marked Midway, passing ea...
