If you go to the historic USGS maps at the Univ of NH there is a Map 1930 showing the B&M RR and a Lakewood Station under the Ossipee Map. I does not show any spur at Lakewood.

Woodland Pulp has found some customers for their pulp that are using rail. There was 10 boxcars in the woodland yard today. Most of the pulp still goes to Eastport by truck. The old OSB mill has been converted to a Natural Gas outlet. They truck out natural gas to customers in northern Maine. This h...

I lived in East Candia NH in the late 1940's and rode the Gas Electric Doodlebugs to Manchester and Raymond. I am almost sure they were Tuscan Maroon. The morning train would bring the Mail everyday and we would bring it to the Store Post office..

Reference Lost Railroads of New England by Ronald Dale Karr the line from Hillsboro to Bennington NH was abandoned by the B&M 8.4 miles in 1979.

I Think the mill is running near Max pulp production now. They have been finding other markets for their pulp. Containers trucked to Saint John. The tissue business is another way to market their pulp and increase its value.

There has been some discussions of repairing the track from Calais to Ayres Junction and building a warehouse and transload to trucks for Eastport . There is no rail from Ayres Junction and the ROW runs through Pleasant Point Indian Reservation and has built over in some locations since it was aband...

Woodland Pulp LLC still uses the Eastport dock > They have recently started also using The Port of Saint John shippinf containers of pulp.

The one I remember was at Winchester Mass. They controlled 2 major street crossings at grade and switches for the Woburn Loop track.

Many many years ago I was fortunate enough to go on a Canadian Railway Historical Society trip from Montreal to Portland and return behind their steam engine CN6218. It was an all day trip each way with an overnight hotel in Portland. Unless this new service can cut down the transit time I don't fee...

I haven't got any new info on this yet. I heard they had a new customer that would be getting pulp out of Saint John that was the earlier container shipments. Perhaps they will load containers from the rail in Saint John. There are some Canadian truckers coming into the mill also. These are box trai...

From what I understand some of the excess woodpulp from the mill is being sold and shipped out by rail. An interesting note is that they have recently been sending out pulp by ship containers out of Saint John NB The mill has commitments for the long term which seem to be considered first.

If this is the line to Fitchville in the map above, this was a CV branch from Gibbs to Fitchville that was 2 miles long built in 1880 and abandoned in 1980 . It always was a freight only line. This information was from "Lost Railroad of New England " by Ronald Dale Karr. Third Edition
