LIRR information should be presented in the main waiting room alongside everything else. There should also be arrivals shown there too; people do come to wait for others.

Re: SEPTA to Piggyback on NJT MLV III (EMU) Order?

The Metropark station tracks are banked (canted). I have never heard of the bank causing any boarding issues there.

Is that metal sorting facility on the west bank of the river supposed to come down, or is there enough room between the existing westbound main and the building for the new track to avoid it?

Conversion of the remaining 25 Hz portions of the NEC to 60 Hz AC would enable M8s to access all the wired network, and not having to provide a transformer big enough to handle 25 Hz nor the equipment to switch between 25 Hz and 60 Hz would pay dividends in lower rolling stock costs. What actually h...

Initially I was in favor of the Barnum station, but I have changed my mind in favor of putting in island platforms at the existing Bridgeport station. It makes sense to link Waterbury with a one-seat ride to a major city center station with local and express service, neither of which a Barnum Avenue...

Do we have confirmation that Amtrak/NYS are specifying compatibility with both over and under running third rail on their P32 replacement? I'm also curious what the speed limit will be on third rail. If that replacement loco can maintain 80 mi/hr in third rail mode, a lot of doors get unlocked; I'm ...

The Changi board may well be a newer model whose parts are not interchangeable with the Philadelphia board.

To me, the problem with all of these schemes to straighten a curve here or there that sound nice to railfans is that the capital cost per minute saved would be insane, even if Connecticut wasn't already in perennial financial trouble. What practical difference would it make if you save five minutes...

The scary part is that CT is about to spend $150 million on two parking garages, one at Stamford and one at New Haven, that will accommodate under 2000 new cars. The traffic induced at each of those stations would probably increase total travel times for users. $150 million is enough to at least buy...

No, with all due respect, there is a real issue here. Today's Fordham-GCT service seems to be an average of a train every 30-40 minutes. The low frequency combined with the need to board the right train likely drives away riders. Conversely, permitting Fordham-to-GCT riders to board CT-origin trains...

Bundling MLVs in an infrastructure project and using them to claim a capacity increase is problematic, especially when the tunnel project's environmental documents emphasize 4 tracks NYP-SEC will not increase capacity (because they have to say that to avoid getting sued), but highway project propone...

Re: Raritan Valley Line Weekend Service to Hoboken

I have been wondering, why not replace the 7600 "Rahway Rocket" trains with RVL trains to/from Manhattan? Some weekends, every second or third 7600 series "Rahway Rocket" trains seems to get cancelled anyway. I'd prefer if the 7600 trains ran consistently enabling the 7200 trains...

And to the extent that equipment does limit speeds—yes it also contributes—it is due to the FRA’s crashworthiness rules. Until being somewhat updated , FRA basically required all equipment, including the Acela I fleet, to be heavier than almost anywhere else in the world. There is only so much you c...

Once this west bypass is completed, will more Amtrak service be able to call at Richmond Main Street, or are there other pieces of that puzzle yet to be addressed?

The problems that keep getting brought up are significant, but they are solvable and/or nonfatal to run-through. I get that it is tough to picture the three New York transit agencies working well, but with the right political pressure, they can be fixed. The bottleneck at the Hudson can be lessened;...
