If the tracks from Cuba to Hornell go out of service, who will assure there condition should an immediate need arise? They are not foolish enough to spend dollars to maintain an unused line. Funny thing is they haven't pulled much revenue off of the Machias to Olean branch yet it was chosen to keep ...

K4 and group,
Now that WNYP is proposing closing the Hornell Interchange this alone will kill the reroutes over the WNYP and any future through traffic East/West. Should there be another bridge failure as in the past, the bypass though Olean will be gone.

It is not legal to operate a bus on a parkway, so if that is the case, and the drivers are going onto a route that they shouldn't be on, then ....let the fines and penalties begin! Drivers have got to wake up. There is no excuse for not knowing. If the sign says its a parkway then you know as a driv...

Amtrak is busing people around the washout till CSX gets back up on its feet. I did notice a lot more Grayhounds at the Syracuse bus station than normal. Trailways is handling most of the Amtrak busing. My company does work for Trailways, in Rochester, all of their Rochester extras were in service ...

I took a ride two weekends ago on this railroad. There was a big effort by the crew to make sure everyone was pleased. We rode in the dome cars to North Creek, which I felt were not as user friendly as the coach cars we were in on the southbound ride. The view was outstanding, the ride was smooth. S...

Rails are in place looks like they might still need alignment and ballast. Switch was installed at the southern end. There are two ties crossed with orange flouresent markings at the other end. It appears that a switch at that end may be delayed or be at least done until the spring. No cars on it ye...

Note that there is also pink markings on the ground in and around the eastern most track. A truck dropped off several bundles of ties at the Avon yard. Maybe another track or an extenstion being added. Storage is surely needed. I am surprised they havent double tracked the Industrial line to Kraft, ...

I thought I caught 425 a couple days before that, behind #420 and it looked like it was running dead, cant prove it, but it sure looked powered down. There were no lights on what so ever. No exhaust. Thought maybe there was an issue. When I saw the third engine on that move, I continued to think may...

It was a three Alco day on the LAL, this 2nd day of November. Southbound from Avon towards Lakeville, I viewed #420 leading #425 and #418. Once the train was outta my sight and crossing the Spring Street bridge, it sounded like one of the locomotives, or all, openned its throttles way up and really ...

FWIW guys, I was not saing the driver wasn't in error here. Just pointing out that there is and has been problem enough times at this bridge. Not the railroads fault, for sure. Driver screwed up, no doubt. After all those signs he hit that bridge hard. The problem is when will they correct the probl...

Howabout looking at this from a different perspective. City of Syracuse builds a transportation center for rail and bus to handle transfers, a nice facility. Just one wrong turn puts you on that parkway with nowhere to turn around. This guy made the wrong turn, the only correction can be done by an ...

Of Chris' shots, I think my favorite is #12 of 78. It should be entitled " The art of Confusion" The 45 degree short nose shot of the the entire locomotive tells us its #451, #450, #550, & labeled WNYP and Seminole Gulf Raiway. #428 LOL courtesy of the LA&L!

Track 2 and 3 have recieved tie replacements that started yesterday on the south end and they are working northward up both east of the main sidings. They have the yard, for the most part, cleaned out of cars with them parked just on the west side of the main, on the Avon Industrial line and the Bar...
