I misremembered the years of material left to mine. Not 10, but 25-30 according to a previous post in this thread. https://www.railroad.net/post1628712.html#p1628712
The plant had used a dirty coke that's a byproduct of another industry. The limestone absorbs the fuel impurities that make it too dirty for conventional use, but that may still be proving to be environmentally problematic. Coupled with only a few years (10 max) of raw material left to quarry and it...
So, uh, 24/7 is an expression for something happening constantly, without pause. I think the vast majority understood what I said.
Drove by the Rockland yard yesterday (Wednesday) morning. Looked like the RDC's engine was running, saw exhaust coming out the stack. Perhaps it's getting fixed?
The lady who complained has lived there over 30 years. Suddenly having a locomotive idling for 3 days, 24/7, right outside your home is understandably disruptive, especially at night.

The webpage for the trip was last updated October 23. Did they know about the mechanical problems then, or was it really a lack of sales at $169 per ticket?
If you're referring to BIW, they get nothing by rail now. Nothing strategic or secure about that. And Rockland isn't a viable enough seaport.
Now, if Emskip wanted a direct ship-rail transfer, Rockland might make sense. Stranger things have happened.
How long before there's a push for making the Rockland line a rail trail...
I don't know what you saw, but the Rockland ones were still in Rockland as of Tuesday.
Sunday July 9, hours of heavy rain have led to severe flooding. West Point has received over 8" of rain. Reports in the NY Times of both tracks washed out south of Poughkeepsie. Woodbury, Highland Mills, the Palisades Parkway, West Point/Highland Falls have all suffered extensive damage, so one...
There is severe flooding in the area, with West Point gettiing over 8" of rain. Reports of washouts south of Poughkeepsie.
