Re: Port Authority advancing PATH extension to Newark Airpor

The EWR airtrain can't handle the capacity now, throw in rapid transit, and it could be a catastrophe. Its not just a question of capacity, the AirTrain is at the end of its design life.... Included in the funding for the new Terminal One bend built at EWR is funding for the construction of 42 foot...

Re: World Trade Center Transportation Hub

The final piece of the Transportation hub is open, the 1 train WTC/ Cortland stop. I can't believe after all the years following the project that not only is it complete, but that I would transfer to Lower Manhattam and be traversing through the hub on a daily basis.

Re: MOM Rail Service

Of all the proposed NJ Transit expansions projects, MOM has the most potential for ridership and benefit to commuters. But MOM, West Trenton etc.. Probably cannot be done now because there's no room for the additional riders on trains to NY pen or the PATH. The new Hudson tunnels need to be built fi...

Re: Moynihan station

The Moynihan project has been under planning, design and engineering for years. At one point NJ Transit was to be the main tenant, the loss of leadership and the neglect at the agency during the Christie administration meant they were sidelined from the project and New York pounced. Say what you wil...

Re: Will Secaucus, Hoboken be ghost towns if one-seat is bu

I agree with sending more RVL, NEC and NJCL to Hoboken, via an expanded waterfront connection. However don't most people get off at Newark anyway on current Hoboken trains from the RVL and NJCL? If you're going to Lower Manhattan, Jersey City isn't the quickest route to change to the PATH at Newark ...

Will Secaucus, Hoboken be ghost towns if one-seat is built

Interesting question raised by the media, in light of Gateway's momentum pushing the project forward what will happen to Secaucus and Hoboken? http://www.nj.com/bergen/index.ssf/2016/10/will_secaucus_hoboken_stations_be_ghost_towns_if_one-seat_loop_is_built.html I think the question is easily answer...

Re: NYT piece: New Jersey Transit, a Cautionary Tale of Negl

It seems like Trenton has gotten the message about NJ Transit: Senator Sweeney, a Democrat, described New Jersey Transit as an agency in crisis, echoing the findings of a report by The New York Times this week. “An agency that was a national model with a bright future seven years ago is now sufferin...

Re: NYT piece: New Jersey Transit, a Cautionary Tale of Negl

You have to remove Amtrak from the scope of the project, ARC was a project to increase capacity between NJ and NYC for commuters. Not for Amtrak, who contributed zero to the project. Nor did Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland etc.. contribute anything to ARC yet they would get more Amtrak trains to NY...

Re: NYT piece: New Jersey Transit, a Cautionary Tale of Negl

The article is quite depressing, a lot of damage through neglect and incompetence (improper storage of equipment during Sandy). I'm hoping the next administrations will have different priorities than the current. Also there's a ballot question to dedicate all gas tax revenues to transportation only ...

Re: Gas Tax increase, Transportation fund = NJ Transit growt

Here's an idea I thought of a while back for streamlining some of NJ Transit's structure, why have a separate NJ Transit police force? It seems too small and responsible for too large of an area to be effective. Why not merge the NJ Transit police force with the State Police, similar to what was don...

Re: Gas Tax increase, Transportation fund = NJ Transit growt

A bill that would raise the state gas tax will also set up the mechanism for lawmakers to deliver their promises to build light rail lines in Bergen County and South Jersey. While the bill doesn't specifically mention the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail extension or the proposed South Jersey Light Rail li...

Gas Tax increase, Transportation fund = NJ Transit growth?Th

The deal to increase the gas tax by .23 cents per gallon will add $32 Billion to the transportation fund when you include Federal funds over the next eight years. With this replenishment, the recent NJ Transit accident, and hopefully a more pro transit Trenton when Christi leaves, could this combine...

Re: Newark Airport Air Train to be replaced

PATH extension to the airport will never replace the monorail. PATH might be extended, but you'll stil have to have a transfer to the monorail or its successor, but if the topic of the discussion is a replacement for the monorail, PATH will never be it. The reason for that is very, very simple What...

Re: Port Authority advancing PATH extension to Newark Airpor

Has the idea ever been floated to eliminate the NEC Rail link station, as well as the Airtrain system, and just extend the PATH to the central Terminal area of the airport? The PATH can extend South from it's current terminus and follow the NEC under route 78 and then head right over Route 9 (or und...

Re: Port Authority advancing PATH extension to Newark Airpor

Regarding the PATH extension to EWR, the notion being bantered about here and by other "Transit advocates" that the funds to build the PATH extension to EWR would or could be transfered to another PA project like a new Bus terminal or the Hudson tunnels is FALSE! The source of funding for the new PA...
