Re: New "East" Yaphank Station

This when adjusted for inflation and other facts easily adds several million to the project in the future. I agree 100% work extra I agree but your employer doesn't care. They have the taxpayer at their expense. Metro-North just put in 1200 new telephone poles on the length of the electrified portio...

I know around 2006 during the track work program they actually re-aligned the Synergy Gas siding straight towards Winter Brothers in anticipation of major C&D transfer station move out of there. Mysteriously a few years later Gershow put the switch curved towards Synergy(long abandoned) and used...

There was a really good special on PBS recently that had quick blurb about Yaphank and how people used the station to get to Camp Siegfried during the lead up to World War II and the rise of Hilter. The camp was just north of the current station.

Krispy, Those are all excellent points about "The End." A close friend of mine his family has been out there since the 1950's, by the early 2000's it was starting to lose the old MTK feel. The trains seem really popular they just bring out the wrong type of element to vacation. Hipsters an...

They(FDNY) also wanted nothing to with 5000 people being in the basement of GCT during rush hour if a terrorist attack occurred. We all know who controls the MTA board though. Follow the money. The 1500's would be fine rebuilt. Metro-North has 8 locomotives doing rescues on a daily basis from 1960's.

An article not too far back in TRAINS magazine had a blurb about the EMD fleet ordered in late 1970's. The EMD manager stated that the 1500's and GP38-2's was the last official passenger order for General Motors- Electric Motive Division. Once again the LIRR makes history! They should really just re...

It's literally the parking lot for the LIRR MofW and NYAR crews. Pineaire Drive just a bit East of Brentwood Fire Department Company 5

Will they be deemed "the Queens Plaza Protects?"

It might be that Joule company that Pacific Harbor Lines might be using to acquire fully battery powered locomotives.

On the Metro-North end of GCT work train diesels and lite locos come in all the time to perform work "in the house."

An interesting fact that was taught to me by the head of the railroad rules dept who owned horses: the frog gets its name from the bottom of a horses hoof. That's actually what the railroad switch frog resembles. Has nothing to do with the amphibian. It makes a lot of sense now after looking at the ...

It's a shame that stuff as yet now over 15 years never panned out at the Calverton industrial park. In 2002 the president of NY& Atlantic told us they got a 1.3 million grant and there would even be a yard job out there. I think Kamco Builders and maybe a food distributor would be the first cust...

Now that LIRR is going into GCT, will they be taking over the Arch Street shops from Bombardier/ Kawasaki?

I think patchogue(PD) to "Y" aka Sayville is 261-S with manual block rules still in effect? So basically one train in the block at a time.

https://youtu.be/dY6Uck5uhO4 My faith in the Railway Labor Act is renewed. As I have consistently noted through this discussion, as well as the related topics elsewhere at the site, the Act has done a commendable job of keeping "Labor Peace" than has other Labor legislation - namely the T...

It's in today's 7/27/2022 Newsday if someone can link the article to this thread. Seems like it was really an environmental push to rid the LIRR of diesel service. Never mind how many people you can cram in a double decker diesel train train vs driving a car. I guess that's no good now either..
