What you saw is a regular occurrence. The train goes to “Kodak” and sometimes the box shop, then pushes south back to the mainline at CP373. The west bound you saw sounds like it probably was a normal Q003. Not sure about the eastbound but CSX runs some very long trains, both freight and stack.

NS 8099, the Southern heritage unit is leading train 205. Arrived at Cass St. in Hornell around 7:00pm to meet 22K.

Its not a heritage unit but the NS 911, the first responders unit, was the second unit of two on 310 this morning. On Attica hill at 0910.

NS 5642, the Training First Responders unit was in NJ yesterday and that fits the description of what you saw.

I thought LA&L donated an RS1 to a local museum, that doesnt seem like a bad preservation record to me.

For those two guys walking in freezing weather to find a train was a fairly common occurance. I know on more than one occasion they walked from Barnards to Charlotte in snow and freezing temperatures looking for the NYC first belt only to find out it was already long gone. Its hard to understand why...
