The Williamsburg Bridge has a pediestrian walkway, which is above and to the side of the tracks for almost all the length of the bridge. The Queensboro's walkway is on the north side of the bridge's lower level. I know you didn't ask about it, but the Manhattan Bridge walkway is on the outside, next...

I got on the E train the other day, and it was one of those heading to 179th Jamaica. I got on at W. 4th around 5:15PM or so.
Of course, I snapped a photo of the roll signs with the handy cell phone camera.
The announcements were just "E to Queens" at that point.

Of course, my brain is fried
Just another thing that was wrong on the 7th Ave. Subway today...
Oh, well.
Sorry.

Red 6 on a roll sign

I was riding the 1 train today, and I spotted this interesting route designator on the roll sign. What could it be for?
Sorry about the poor quality, it was my cell phone camera.

I feel obliged to point out that the Second Avenue Subway has been cooking since the 1920s, when it was first proposed as part of Phase II of the Independent Subway.

According to my 1992 timetable, Elizabeth to Newark without a stop at N. Elizabeth was 7 minutes on the locals. I have an ETT, and from Elmora to Newark Penn on the express was about 8 minutes. NWK to NYP was 14-18 minutes. This is pretty much the same on all the timetables back to the 1941 PRR one....

PRR January 5, 1941: Lv Trenton 6:19AM, Arrive NYP 7:25, stops at Newark Penn only Local: Lv Trenton 9:54AM, arrive NYP 11:30, skips Stelton, Menlo Park, North Rahway, South Elizabeth, and South Street Newark (so the schedule is similar to the pre-Hamilton and EWR service). From July 3, 1977 Conrail...

Thanks for posting that!

Perth Amboy PD are very good to the train crews and respond almost immediately, unlike Elizabeth, where last year, a crew was waiting for nearly an hour for the PD to come and arrest someone who assaulted someone else on the train. And the best part is that Police HQ in Elizabeth is less than a blo...

I've lived in Elizabeth practically all my life, and I've ridden the train to and from there pretty much every working day for the past 10 years. It can be disturbing there at night, but I've never had any serious problems during the day. Elizabeth in general has some serious crime and gang problems...

As an aside, it's interesting to note that I was using a brand new Canon Powershot camera with an 8MP sensor, which is more than pgengler's camera, yet his shots are sharper than my raws. Shows that MP's ain't everything! That much larger sensor on the digital Rebel makes a difference.

It was spot on time in Elizabeth. Here's some big, slightly mushy pictures.
Heading into the station.
A trailer.
Going away.

I saw an R160 set on an N train zoom through 8th Street this evening around 5:15.
Cool!

I guess the boarded-up doorway in the tunnel between 34th street and the PATH station was the 6th Ave end of this, does anyone know where in Penn Station end was?
