By Kearny do you mean an Amtrak 25Hz substation, or the 60Hz Meadow Substation (located in Kearny) which is owned by NJT and is flow-thru substation on the PSE&G D-1304 and G-1307 138kV transmission lines? The former would affect the NEC but the latter, only NJT. I think the problem for the NEC...

No idea what it was or what direction, but a VERY long and loud train with some throaty diesels just went through Highland Park, sounded possibly eastbound. Possibly the Browns transfer? PR52 left Browns pulling 92 outbounds. Pulled them on out on the NEC southbound at Midway and cut away from them...

I used to own U23B #2209 which I leased to the NYSW for 2 years back in 2005 - 2007. I know my #2 or #3 axle had wheels that were slightly thinner then the other 3 axles and there was an issue with spinning that axle on occasion. The cards for wheel slip and the axle sensor were changed out and it s...

The only processing left that USX does at its Fairless Works plant is the galvanizing of coil steel. Coils come in by rail in coil cars and they are unloaded, unrolled, and galvanized. Other parts of the site have been rented out to other customers. This includes a windmill manufacturer. Props and m...

Fairless Works SSB-1200 switcher locomotives #1 and #15 have been scrapped on site at Fairless Works by the demolition contractor who has been tearing down the unused buildings at the plant. Both units were of Santa Fe heritage having been rebuilt from SW-9s by the Santa Fe in 78. #1 had a cut cab a...

Gadfly, your tribute was amazing. I do not know Max personally but while reading your tribute, my eyes started to tear. My condolences to the loss of your friend. He is a legacy and I am sure will be remembered as such.

Yes, the F45 had a catastrophic engine failure so it was removed from service. Also at another point the combos were removed from this unit and used on another loco.

SA2 runs to Silverline and Mauser. SA3 works the old Budweiser plant and the other customer down the line in Spottswood. Mauser gets cars 2x a week. Silverline is getting them 1/week or less. They run Tues and Thurs. They're the only 2 customers on this side of the South River draw. SA2 also serves...

Don't know if 1350 is still at Pavonia, but making my daily trek to work via the Walt Whitman Br into PA this morning, I saw a 3rd Savage SW paired with the other 2 that have been there in S Philly for a while now. FWIW, all 3 are facing the same direction. The third one is indeed 1350, backlighted...

If you are in need of a trucking outfit to move it, let me know. I can put you in touch with the outfit that moved the 2 Alcos out of Staten Island. They also moved a baggage car and a caboose.

For the last 2 week I have not seen the RCRY on the riverside dr siding droping or picking up cars. just Conrail down to the chemial plant mid day RCRY now runs its outbounds up to Metuchen Yard. They cross Route 1 around 6:00 / 6:30am. They drop their empties in Metuchen on 2 tracks and pull back ...

Conrail installed another switch to access Silverline Windows to compensate for the cut back on the headroom that was in place under the old Route 1 bridge.
