What type of lube oil should be used on a NW2 friction axle bearing ? Will engine lube oil work or is it too thick ? the owner asked me recently. Thanks for answers.

Re: Alcos Currently For Sale

I read on www.railswap.org four Alcos in West Virginia are for sale. Two MRS-1's and two S-4's for $94,000. I wonder if these are at Cass ? Joe

Re: EL West End Customers

Yes the area is lacking in industry.I remember a caboose factory west of Marion and the Orton Crane Works in Huntington,Indiana.Another forum mentioned an oil refinery 20 miles west of huntington that is now served by the NS. Conrail ran on a mile of ex-EL to reach the Dolco plastics factory in Deca...

Re: Electrical cables on a BN covered hopper

Looked like a pair of 14 gage power cables in a conduit, added after the hopper car was built. Male/female plug at end of cables. Unpainted conduit pipe about 1" diameter going the length of the car. Appeared to be at least five years old.Electrical not electronic.I plan on Googling Epic brake system...

Electrical cables on a BN covered hopper

Recently we unloaded a 1994 BN covered hopper at the grain terminal. What made this car unusual was the electrical cables which ran the length of the car, with the cables ending at connecting jacks at the car's ends. One cable appeared to be fastened to a sensor on a brake beam.First time we saw such ...

Coaling tower east of Akron

Recently I was traveling on I-76 east of Akron. The interstate went over an old railyard and on the north side was a two track coaling tower. What railroad did this used to be ? Thanks for any answers, Joe

Re: Indiana RR to buy Latta Sub and trackage rights from CP

I was at Latta on 7-31,saw a 1928 Brownhoist wrecking crane near the engine house. Couple leased units also there.

"What the Engine Done" sung by Two Ton Baker back in the 1940's is rather humerous. I heard it once on the Dr Demento Show.

My employer leased an EMD SW-1 from ILSX.It's frame number is 6213-2 which would give it the serial number of 13706. Making it NKP-106,built in 12-1951.Independent Locomotive Service is the leaser. Christmas came early. Joe.
