I just hired out with a RailAmerica Property and its alright so far. They gave me a moving allowance to come so I guess that says something. We're non union, and get paid for 40hrs. Not sure on the raises yet, but we do get a quarterly safety bonus which equals a certain percentage of what we earn. ...

Most every chemical plant in Houston that I've switched at has those type of self guarding frogs. They're actually pretty beefy, that picture doesn't do them justice. That raised part actually comes up a couple of inches, which at 5 mph or slower - is plenty.

You need to write a book before your head explodes! I mean that as a complement. Maybe a book on the history of locomotive electrical theory?

I was supposed to have called you this evening, but I got home too late to do so - you're an hour ahead of me, and I don't want to call too late.

Answer me this then! The 2350 ( Alco S-2, ex santa fe, 1945 ) has the old EMD drum stand with a transition lever. I believe its 4 position ( off-1-2-3 ) How do you think Santa Fe figured this out? Are the Alco transition circuits, and EMD controllers that similar? The contactors in the elec. locker ...

Off the top of my head, I think the difference between the T-6 and other Alco switchers was not just the transition feature, but AUTOMATIC transition vs manual transition. I have to dig out my T-6 specifications and manuals to be sure. Correct me if I am wrong, but I seemed to recall that when tran...

I used to write either with my gloved finger in the grime, or with a grease pencil on the end of tank cars, "Jesus Saves". Sometimes on both ends, but always somewhere on any car that I rode. Maybe some railroader somewhere will see it, and realize his need for the savior. Who knows? Britt

They came with twin Alco 538's ( later changing to the newer 539) with the swiss designed Buchi turbocharger.

Scotty, that colorized shot is one of the coolest things I've seen on here! Do you do requests via pm?

Aren't they just S-2's with type A's and 251's? That was my impression when I worked on them up on the A&M. Different nose too, the T-6 has the notched corners.

I've shoved 40 loaded covered hoppers up a hill, through three switches and across a flange greaser with one CF-7. I had air, and marginal sand. I liked this unit, but the cab was setup so that it felt like I was sitting right on top of the front window. Wierd feeling. Then we got rid of that and ha...

Speaking of 1500 cabs... has anyone ever ran a 1500 with the HUGE control stand in the middle of thecab? Its single control, set for long hood forward, but the fireman's side has a built in computer/monitor/printer. The Highvoltage equipment is accessed from a door in the front, and all the switches...

Road loads the locomotive through the load regulator, slowly Switching 1 bypasses the load regulator, so you get almost instant load Switching 2 is the same as the above, except the engine is idled up to notch 3 rpm. So when you come out of idle notch, in effect you're coming straight into notch 3 w...
