Re: Yreka Western

Update: No cars anywhere on the line. Red board facing towards Yreka on the turnout connecting YW to the CORP. Only place I couldn't see was the inside of the engine house.

On a recent visit to IRM I noticed something interesting pertaining to the builder plates on Frisco 1630. The Cyrillic characters used to spell out Philadelphia use an "i" in the next to last letter, just left of what looks like a backwards "R" which makes a "yah" sound...

I concur with RailVet's assessments. Perhaps a detachment, or regionally grouped detachments could fall under the supervision of a Chief Warrant Officer with experience in all facets of rail operations, and management. I don't think however, that we will ever see more than what currently exists, at ...

Add to above: The "road job" RS 101 & RS 102 switch several customers between Toledo and Dundee, MI, and interchange with NS, at Milan, as well as making the run to Osmer. CTC between CP Alexis and Diann. TWC from Diann to end of AARR, where GLC begins.

I hate to see any short line fall to abandonment. I hope that doesn't happen at MH. I remember riding the MH in 1988, back when I lived in Kelso, WA. I enjoyed it very much, due in part that at that time, I knew very little about railroading. Now I have 26 years in the industry, and I might not find...

Just for the sake of comparison, here at the IORY, engineers are at 25.00 (and some change) per hour. If I had to guess, I'd say were all getting an average of ten hours per shift. The guarantee rate doesn't seem like much compared to the OT we usually see. In a good half I pull down around 2300.00....

RailMark Holdings Inc.

If one was to look at RailMark's website, it gives the impression that the Yreka Western is an up-and-running railroad; but on a recent visit there I encountered the contrary. The office (depot) is boarded-up and the engine house has been tagged, and switches without locks have been tampered with. T...

There have been several test runs, the last of which I witnessed, was a single locomotive and a single tub intermodal car about six weeks ago if memory serves me.

Here we go again. RailTex; RailAmerica; G&W. Let's see how many other corporate entities I can work for before I retire. When Fortress acquired RA, it changed nothing here in the trenches. Fortress basically just chewed on us for awhile, spit us out, and kept the FEC. Let's see what these other ...

In a recent visit to Yreka I noticed that things still look pretty sad, really. I'm still waiting for the aggressive pursuit of industrial development along the YW ROW, as promised by RailMark, Inc. It's been two years now. Any thoughts?

I'm currently a volunteer at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo, CA and we are in the process of acquiring a former Southern Pacific low hood GP9 that was last in service with the Marines at Camp Pendelton. I believe the transfer from there to Campo is going to take place next week... Wo...

I would be interested in learning about freight traffic over the RZD; specifically freight being moved from Western Europe, through Russia and Uzbekistan, and terminating at Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan. I know there are equipment/gauge differences that must complicate the transfer. Given that the Uz...

Looks like in the YouTube videos, based on their conversations and actions that they were not targeting the engines or the crew; but yes, I am not fond of people who do this. I have known crews that have been targeted; one with a slingshot (and was hit), and another with an air rifle; burying the pe...

Darwinism. Don't stand that close to the edge if you're so distracted you lose you tend to lose your balance. He didn't loose his balance, he WALKED right off the platform! "You just can't fix stupid!" Oh, but you can (fix stupid) and you will, because your supervisor(s), read: unit, has ...
