I always liked the look of the 1953 Swiss Schinder Waggons....and the Kinki Sharyo cars keep rolling along in the Copper Canyon.

Perhaps a more accurate framing is will the current rail initiatives last past end of term in September?

It would require a mountain of money to restore that Riley routing through the current Lafayette rail and road geometry.

P.S. It was the Nickel Plate Route through Lafayette with Big Four trackage rights.

Pardon a slight railfan digression- The Cleveland, Cincinnati, Chicago and St. Louis Railway was bought by the New York Central system in 1906. At that time they began flattening, straightening and double tracking the “Bee-line”, their trunk from Cleveland to Indy. The improvements were extended wes...

Staggers effectively abrogated common carrier obligations. Defacto, but that is the result after 40 years. Rail now sits middle to bottom of the transportation market, and what are hot moves on the railroad are maybe not so much compared to road and air shipments. Try google maps rail-fanning. There...

Carbody units have better power to weight ratios, which is why they used them in pre-war diesel-electric power units. Operating over 79mph in the U.S. required cab signals, so that was probably an issue in the how/why of the gear ratio offerings as well. Plenty of roads had EMD hood units in passeng...

Sad news.

Signal work/a signal suspension was in place.

Conjecture:
Maybe combined with an error by the freight crew (not tied up correctly/left switch open).
CSX dispatching is in process of moving to Jacksonville, so a lack of experience on that desk could have been an issue.

For the Golden State traffic via KC, they were working a couple of options: buy Soo's ex-Milwaukee Road route to KC, or purchase KC - CHI trackage rights from BN (and NS). Trib article I remember an EB hotshot that used to bomb through the morning rush and blow me back from the platform in Lisle.

Yep. Then screw employees, vendors and equipment lessors out of payment.

If it looks like a duck.... but hey, Ellis posts on railfan forums so he must be A-OK.

Rumor is IP is out this week, state is negotiating with Amtrak to pick it up, and it goes out to bid again in July.
