Re: New life breathed into old RDC's

Canadian real estate developer Richard Carpenter's (2/2011 Trains) speculation in modernizing RDC's overlooks one key problem with them that he can't readily solve. Apparently because of their light weight, they cannot be counted upon to actuate grade crossing or track signal circuits in bad weather...

I can't tell you what is but I can tell you pretty much what was in the late '60s-early ''70s. The yard was MEC's therefore it's probably PAR's today. I can't tell you street names (there weren't enough streets to have to know names) and no longer have a detailed map of the area but the only industr...

Oldest RDC's in commuter service (Not tourist)?

As a 2nd generation NH employee, I was surprised to see in a magazine (RF&RR) a photo of two former NH RDC's, NH RDC-2 No.121 (Built 5/52) and RDC-3 No.129 (Built 5/53), still in active service under their own power as back-ups on Tri-Met in Oregon. That's close to sixty years of service! Tough ...

It would be interesting to know what railroad first tried to run RDC's pulling conventional equipment. I remember (Yes, I'm that old) when the NH first purchased their's they sandwiched one or two conventional commuter coaches between to RDC-1's as the Braintree shuttle (Shuttled between Boston and ...

If CP is indeed listed as interchanging with NECR at Bellows Falls (?), it’s on paper only. CP hands off to VRS/CLP at the VRS Whitehall yard (former D&H yard) with a turn out of Saratoga Springs, VRS 263 leaves Whitehall (on former D&H branch to Rutland) in the wee hours, arrives Rutland ea...

Even if the potential existed the present operator south out of Keag (track west) has shown no inclination toward such improvements anywhere, unless someone else pays for it. Even the recently reported startup of new "fast freight service" over the route leaves one wondering just what the ...

NS Operating Rules

 by 3rdKeag ¦  Fri Nov 11, 2011 6:30 pm ¦  Forum: Norfolk Southern ¦  Topic: NS Operating Rules ¦  Replies: 3 ¦  Views: 3016

I thought NS was a member of NORAC and used the NORAC Book of Operating Rules but someone recently tried to tell me NS issues it's own Book of Operating Rules. I haven't been otherwise able to find an answer on line. Which is it? Thanks.
