Re: Delaware & Ulster Railroad (DURR) Discussion

Re: Newbuild ALCOs

FM/ALCO no longer builds new 251 blocks as I recently learned. You might as well forget meeting "Tier" standards of any level due to that alone. The best hope is rebuilding existing blocks which may allow for "grandfathered" emissions standards.

Re: Catskill Mountain Railroad (CMRR) Discussion - 2018

In addition to what is discussed above,it raises the question of ownership of the ROW. If the County of Ulster purchased the line, where is the proof ? In addition, was proper procedure followed in regards to sale of the line after abandonment ? Often the time frame between abandonment and new owner...

Re: Catskill Mountain Railroad (CMRR) Discussion - 2018

The Catskill Mt Railroad has sent a letter of intent to the County to access the line all the way to CSX. They have also requested that CSX replace the switch for interchange and access to the Kingston Yard.

Re: Catskill Mountain Railroad (CMRR) Discussion - 2018

It seems one problem the CMR has is they never went official with the 1980s freight service, trying to fly under the radar as a hobby railroad and avoid scrutiny that would have created big problems for their operations. At least that's what someo...

Re: Odd Canadian GE generators

I now have a ALCO MI booklet showing information for a number of Main Generators including the 581, 584 and 586 along with one or two others. BTW, the DL-535-S uses a 581E Main Generator.

Re: LIRR C-Liner engines

Speaking of the "C" Liner, the LIRR has asked ALCO for a proposal to re-engine them with ALCO 12-251 engines in the early 60's. Needless to say, it proved that buying brand new C420's was a better deal.
