Be sure to check out the old Precision rebuild yard. The last time I passed through Mt. Vernon there were still a lot of "fallen flags" parked out back waiting for re-fit.

It might be too late by now, but next time you're in the Detroit area, youmight consider driving to Toledo. There are many good photo spots and two yards in the North end of town right off of I-75.

I ride my bicycle through Temperance yard quite frequently in the summer so I've seen the open top hoppers/gondolas of which you speak. Most of the time, these have a backhoe perched atop them and usually there is a lot of debris lying around. I can only assume that these are being used for disposal...

This is not an uncommon sight. I've seen a lot of W&LE power at Lang Yard. I've never seen them in motion, but I've seen them waiting to be switched into Lang on the old tracks that cross New York Ave. I'm not sure if they come in from the bridge from the Ironville yard or not. I apologize for t...

I believe the customer in question here is OmniSource. They have a siding at CP-K either off the NS Detroit Main or off the old TT. I believe that this is a large metal scrap yard.

Now that Spring is upon us once again, it's time to start watching for traffic on the Old Road. This was such a hot topic in the old forums, I figured it was time to get it going again.

I can't wait. :D

Thanks for the clarification. I'd have never guessed they would classify elsewhere with the volume of cars I see going through there.

Not to nitpick or anything, but unless Lang closed briefly during my hiatus from railfanning, Lang Yard is up, running, and very active. I drive by it daily to see what's going on. It is a great spot to see foreign power (I counted over a dozen locomotives from 5 different roads there today) and som...
