Re: New Infatuation LA - Mass Transit

What's the story on the Blue Line? Massive rehab? First I've heard of it. And what's being substituted? I'd think a bus shuttle would be a nightmare with that passenger volume. https://www.metro.net/projects/new-blue-line-improvements/ The northern portion of the alignment is out of service for fou...

Re: Congressional Restrictions on CRRC Transit Cars?

I'm not worried about the MetaData on delays on the Orange Line. But as mentioned briefly regarding Stuxnet, what I am worried about is brakes being overridden remotely, causing an "accident" and tying up a transit line for weeks or longer for repairs and avoidance of similar crashes in the future ...

Re: New Infatuation LA - Mass Transit

No idea what narrative the WSJ is trying to push, but perhaps we should ask the agency itself? http://isotp.metro.net/MetroRidership/Index.aspx most of the drop is due to blue line being OOS, which is not indicative of very much. Expo line is down 0.08% (yes you read that right, less than 0.1%). Gre...

Re: New BBD plant - Pittsburg

Makes sense — they are woefully behind on fulfilling their BART contract and having the cars finished close by instead of having to ship them across the country can't hurt.

seems weird that there's no mention of midtown direct service in this video…but Secaucus is supposed to be like PSNY or WAS? lol…

Re: California High-Speed Rail (CAHSR) System

California not the only ones facing rising costs . https://www.railroad.net/viewtopic.php?f=149&t=169858 Actually , might be quite a good comparison of costs between these 2 schemes. interesting comparison, HS2 expected to cost ~70B to build 330 miles of track CASHR, latest estimate 63-98B to build...

Re: California High-Speed Rail (CAHSR) System

There still needs to be a citation for your math. Simple following spacing is not how traffic works. Really? Golly, will California DOT suffice? http://ccag.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/cmp_2005_Appendix_B.pdf Please read Table B1, take special interest with Line E, Row MSF(pcphpl) for freeway...

Re: BART from Fremont to Warm Springs and San Jose

Thanx, The EGE. I notice all the construction in the background. The buildings look like they could be apartment buildings or office buildings. Seems like the west-side transit village is coming along. Yeah these are mostly homes. Here are at least two of the communities there: https://www.lennar.c...

Re: California High-Speed Rail (CAHSR) System

we live in the real world, not in the simple world of algebra. being dismissive of engineering studies backed up by real data, as opposed to imaginary math, is not exactly helping your case. nor is completely ignoring the other points raised — like the lack of space to build freeways or the fact tha...

Re: California High-Speed Rail (CAHSR) System

Turn it around, who has the dollars to pay for the alternatives ?? Assuming there is room to build more freeways and airports, before even going near future Carbon costs etc. I would have a hard time believing California's population is not going to keep on increasing. Alternatives, even rail alter...

Re: California High-Speed Rail (CAHSR) System

They expect to do so with careful scheduling. But they may add passing tracks later, like double-tracking single-track parts of light-rail systems. Yeah I read that. Still not going to be able to achieve more than 110 maximum speed on any of these segments, which even if they have a clear shot with...

Re: California High-Speed Rail (CAHSR) System

I can't understate how dumb this is.

With no passing tracks and no dedicated HSR tracks, how on earth are they going to hit the 2 hr 40 min maximum that is stipulated in the prop 1A requirements?

Absolutely nuts, this project has officially gone off the rails before it got started. Sad.

Re: Canal Slip in Hoboken

As with all regulations, starting new service is not the same as continuing existing service. New fuel economy and emissions regulations apply to new cars, not existing ones. When your town changes zoning ordinances, existing out-of-compliance houses are not required to be torn down but new construc...

Re: Canal Slip in Hoboken

ok here are a few basic things that come to mind… studies are not done for the sake of being done, but due to legal precedent set. there are environmental regulations that require the studies and that require the collection of public comment and addressing of said comments. it is also more prudent t...
