It's on its way today
Not running the Seaboard signals on the B&A yet, it's still CSX's version of the Conrail signals.
Yes, I think around '08-'09. Didn't last long due to having to switchout the DPU's on both ends of a short run. Caused more problems than the perceived benefit.
Remember the "host" RR is CSX here, they will say NO!! Train #'s 448/449 get delayed on the B&A on a regular basis. They won't be happy dealing with a push-pull shuttle running between Pittsfield -Chatham - Albany. This will require NYSDOT and MassDOT to help fund the service. Figure o...
I'd say its more of a test. It does depend on weight on 424/425 as dealing with the DPU's basically involves some switching and takes some time. No point in doing that if the train isn't heavy enough to justify it. I think only 004/003 on the river line are using DPU's. 004 is usually close to 15,00...
The DC motors don't pull as hard as the AC's, so you need more of them. In years past if you any any kind of real train you'd have an all AC consist. They might get down to 1 MPH at the steepest part, but they would keep pulling and you would not stall. Now you never know what kind of mixed bag of p...
Didn't CSX operate Q274/Q293 Ford auto rack trains on a Worcester-Ayer turn trackage rights basis back in the pre-Pan Am Guilford era? Or did these auto trains use GRS crews between Worcester and Ayer? I forget... Is this new arrangement to operate a Q426/Q427 turn due to Pan Am being short on crew...
CSX must be running a lot of heavy trains these days with everything into and out of New England being jammed onto three manifest pairs. Yes, Q424 is regularly running 13,500 tons direct to West Springfield with DPU's. Q426 and Q436 are usually right at 10,500 tons with three engines no DPU. Q020 i...
Regarding the new customer in Wilbraham, would this be at the old garbage transload center on Old Boston Road? I noticed a lot of tree and land clearing in that area over the past few months. That facility still had a switch and siding if I remember right. Yes, that's it. Five new tracks being buil...
I'm happy to admit that it seems I was wrong in some of my other posts, things are looking up on the B&A now. The Pittsfield local is back and Q424 now runs with distributed power, it's been running 12,000+ tons all the way to Springfield. The old weight limit was 10,600 tons with all engines on...
CSX crew, based out of Worcester, now brings the q426/q427 to and from Ayer. Selkirk crew brings them to and from Worcester as usual.
You're missing a few trains. Q020 and Q436 eastbound. Q161,Q017 and Q437 westbound. The auto trains are Q264 loaded eastbound and Q263 empty westbound. You may also see the K symbol ethanol train, it runs about twice a month.
Looks like some signal work being done on the B&A east of Springfield. The old type G tri-lights are coming down and new modern signals are going up. Could see excavation work being done around the base of them at Athol Jct and the new towers are already standing (one with heads installed but t...
Q424 has taken over servicing Carovail in Niverville since the Pittsfield local was abolished. That industry has a little track mobile and a run around track so Q424 just puts the loads on their spur. They switch and spot them with the track mobile. Q424 also takes the empties to Pittsfield and adds...
