To note, J.D. Irving Ltd. has two mills in Saint John N.B., a Pulp & Paper and a Tissue facility. In addition, forty miles West of Saint John at Utopia, is a Corrugated Medium plant.

With the potential of Poland Springs operating in the Lincoln Me. area, which surfaced a few months ago, it was stated at the time, rail could be a vital entity to make that happen. Today's Pan Am / DP World announcement, the Lincoln traffic potential from PS, plus the increasing NBSR interchange tr...

Perhaps the time is " ripe " for Pan Am to apply for T.I.G.E.R ( Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery ) Funding for the Keag to Waterville section. Apparently, they did not apply for one last year .... as Maine Northern RR, EMRY and CMQ I believe, have each taken advantag...

Not even close. The average of maybe 30 loads a day is never going to pay to upgrade the line to 25. That's 110 miles Keag-Waterville, running 30 loads/day above Old Town and maybe 35/day from there down. No where near the revenue needed to justify a multiple tens of millions dollar upgrade for who...

With the return of the Pan Am/NBSR Interchange point to Mattawamkeag, in the last couple of years ( instead of Northern Maine Jct ), the good amount of traffic presently handled between Mattawamkeag / NMJ, should certainly justify in itself, track upgrades for 25 mph at least. Another scenario perha...

I just browsed my older VIA Timetables, recalling they had car diagrams. From the 1994 Timetable, the " Manor " Sleeper has the four Roomettes showing .... # 1 opposite # 2 .... 3 opposite 4, with 1 and 2 being at the car's end.

I believe the Canadian uses the Manor Sleepers on the Canadian, during the Off Peak Season. With the Cabin for One accommodation, are the four rooms all more or less, over the wheel set ? I'm thinking specifically of Room # 3's location.

Yes, there's a bit of welded rail in here, iirc from 1977 or in that general ballpark. I have a copy of a Maine Central Messenger, Summer 1980 Issue. On the cover, photo shows MOW workers installing MEC's first C.W.R., along the shore of Messalonskee Lake. The 115 lb. C.W.R. was laid East and West ...

And not to stray too far...Irving was building an eastbound at Brownville, and had 3 cars of new creosoted ties. Which is unusual for them, they've been using PT ties recently. NBSR is returning to the use of creosote ties as the pressure treated ones were splitting frequently, within a few years o...

It also appears Irving has adjusted their schedule, as their jobs between Brownville and McAdam were routinely meeting in Bancroft of 'Kirby ('Keag) in the late afternoon, and have been meeting in the morning this week. Rumor hazit Irving was displeased with the transit times using an EMRY-CMQ-ST r...
