The "nose job" on the 90213 was the result of being struck by dozens of trees between Saco and Kennebunk during one of the storms a month or so ago. Train 680 played battering ram / snow plow that day. While the nose may look worse for wear (ie, dent and duct tape around the headlight hous...

On January 5 and 6, the rail train that has been parked on Walnut siding will begin unloading in the Wells area as part of the double tracking project. As such, Downeaster trains 680 and 682 will run from Brunswick to Boston. Trains 681, and 686 will not operate. Trains 685, 687, 688 and 689 will op...

The second track is being installed from the current CPF 228 to somewhere around the Elm St area. So in essence, there will be around 8 miles of double track, beginning at CPF 226, once the project is complete. I haven't viewed the project's progress in a couple weeks. Hoping to get an eye on it soo...

It looks as though the double track project between Wells and North Berwick, Me is underway. Crews have been out clearing trees, etc from the right of way. Pan Am has dropped the speed for all trains to 40mph between Main Street, MP 233.41 to Elm St / Route 4 MP 234.28. Early estimates have the proj...

I am not sure if RUMORS are allowed to be posted. If not, delete at will. The reason I am posting this RUMOR (disclaimer, this is nothing but a rumor) is that I find it slightly amusing. The RUMOR I heard (I hope I have stressed that enough) is that one the transaction is complete, CSX will rebuild ...

The photo was taken in the vicinity of CPL 15 on the Brunswick Branch. As I drove by the BLF, I saw the hi-rail equipped excavator near Church Road, presumably waiting for 684 (and possibly 681) to pass before resuming duties. I do not remember the name of the company on the excavator, but it wasn't...

The equipment you saw was probably the "crosstown" move. When cars, locos, or cab cars need periodic inspections and maintenance beyond what can be performed in Brunswick, they are sent to Southampton Street Yard in Boston. The term "crosstown" refers to the fact that that they n...

Equipment moves between the Downeaster service and Boston usually get tacked onto the tail end of 686 at Portland. Once in Boston, the "crosstown crew" cuts away, and heads for Southampton Street yard. Depending on the consist they are bringing back, they either run home "solo", ...

While we're veering further away from the title of this thread, I'm curious as to what language in NORAC Rule 400 (A) leads you to conclude that by rule, it is permitted. I'm focusing on the lines that read "Before issuing a Form D authority in DCS territory, the Dispatcher must determine that ...

The report I received is that there are a few washouts around Utica, NY. I was told around 235,236, and 240, with water over the track at the bridge near 240.6. If I receive any updates, I'll pass them along. If out there railfanning, expect to see more rip rap laden dump trucks moving than trains.

Thank you for posting them. The first photo shows the track machine parked over a newly installed switch, which will be powered, (dual control actually) instead of hand thrown. The track leading to the right is the east leg of the wye which leads to CPF 196. The track to the left of the machine is t...

Aw geez. I'm sorry. I'm not technically savvy enough to know how to fix it. It's weird, when I click on the link, it takes me to the Facebook Pan Am Railfan forum. Ill see about posting them via another method. Thanks for letting me know.

The locomotives you see with the large GATX on the nose are units being leased by Keolis. I believe they have GMTX reporting marks. I'd have to check, but I recall seeing one numbered around 2622 in work train service. I don't think they have more than 4 on lease. They are used for switching, work t...

The OCS was on the move east this morning. It was alleged they wanted it to be on the move out of Rigby around 10am. I did see it go by Woodville Road near mp188 shortly after 11am. I'm no expert at judging speed, but by the number of shots I was able to take, I'd say they went by just under 20mph.
