Rasputens' N-Scale Vehicles

Has anyone else heard of these? I see many posts on various forums showing a wide range of well detailed, inexpensive trucks and cars but there is no contact information. If this person is still producing N-Scale vehicles they'll be getting a lot of business from me, if I can find out how to contact...

Rohr Turbo at Cedar Hill

One of the remaining Rohr Turbo trains is at the Amtrak MoW base at Cedar Hill yard. It is on track 17(?) at the north end of the base and is easily visible from outside the gate. Don't know why it is here but there is also an FL-9 in New Haven livery there but in the middle of the yard. JW

There are no Post Office tracks anymore. The facility is entirely served by trucks.

Widett Circle and its markets are located right where the words Buildings and N.Y.N.H. are on the title section of the map above. Photos and maps of this area show the markets in place in 1969 but not in 1967 so they may have been served by the New Haven for a little while before Penn Central. The r...

Noel, Do you still have your time books for August and October 1955, especially the hurricane days? I have recently come into possession of many original and mimeo pages of "Unusual Occurrences " and stranded equipment reports for both storms and was wondering if any of your assignments mi...

In Braintree, between the Kingston/Plymouth and Middleboro/Lakeville branches of the MBTA s' Old Colony service. I wouldn't get too close unless you're well armed.

What you saw was likely a division track gang out of Providence working on whatever it was that they were assigned to that night. Track inspectors and switch inspectors generally work during daylight hours. I have worked with the Interlocking Rehab Gang S129 out of both Providence and Boston and I c...

Re: Concrete vs Wood Ties

The thing about concrete ties (timbers) used in switches is that each one is made for a specific position. If you need to replace one or more you must have the specific pieces to do it. In a switch using wood timbers, any timber can be used in any position that it is long enough for. Spikes and/or s...

Penn Central E-8 #4263 was painted DGLE, evidently in the late 60s/early 70s and then never painted again, even when it was sold to the MBTA. After it was retired, the unit spent several years in a yard in Somerville, just north of the Boston Engine Terminal. I photographed this engine in the mid to...

As 130MM said additional tracks on the track one side are odd numbered while additional tracks on the track 2 side are even numbered. It's not that there were once more tracks which are now gone, it's because the NY,NH&H was thinking ahead when deciding how to number tracks. This way you don't h...

I would either begin the spiral for the inner curve before beginning the outer curve spiral or, preferably, begin both spirals at the same point but reduce the rate of change on the outer spiral thus allowing the track centers to increase gradually and evenly until reaching the full body of the curv...

Restoration, or at least stabilization of the historic Windsor Locks station has begun. Scaffolding surrounds the front, rear and roof of the old station. The first phase of the project appears to be repair/replacement of the roof. The dormers are being done first and I assume the rest of the roof w...

There has been a Heritage series baggage car on track 19 at the Amtrak MoW base in Cedar Hill Yard for a few weeks. I don't recall the number but it is not a coach conversion. Another interesting baggage car at Cedar Hill is the former NYC end-door car which has been in use as part of the rail weldi...
