The bat issue is only a concern for tree removal. Work in the tunnel would not matter. With the temps climbing and night time lows above freezing work should start moving again.

Toby, I asked your age as you are fairly new here and seem to have your position set in stone. Instead of discussing other's responses, you post videos (that do not bolster your position) and continue to trumpet your opinion. You seem young to me or newly in the hobby. If I am wrong, I do apologize....
I am curious as to the age of the original poster and what their background might be in railroad knowledge. The purchase of the NYS&W by NS and CSX back in 1999 was specifically to prevent any chance of the NYS&W connecting to another railroad, CN or at the time CP to run intermodal trains a...
Its all about limiting liability. Doesn't matter if it is 1 foot over 1,000 or 24 feet over. Cutting off the extra bit will keep NJT from having to justify why they couldn't meet the regulation and save millions if a lawsuit was ever to occur. Can you imagine the field day the lawyer would have argu...
That article was from January. All tree clearing seems to have been completed by April 1. Work is progressing on a small culvert at this time. Once the culvert is in place construction equipment will be able to access the tunnel. Work suspended for endangered bat season? https://www.tapinto.net/town...
The locomotives have been getting painted inside the shop building in Butler, NJ formerly occupied by the NYS&W Tech Society. The former NS SD40-2 is currently getting painted. As some people here may know, the NYS&W Railroad does not have their own paint shop. Any locomotives paint jobs hav...
The SU-100 / SU-99 had been on a Monday - Wednesday- Friday passing through Butler NJ between 1-5 am. As of late, Eastbound SU-100 comes through Butler between 1-5 am on Tuesdays and Fridays with its counterpart leaving around 4:00pm from Ridgefield Park on the same days. Recent photos on Facebook s...
Why would NYS&W Be unhappy about the detours? More money in their pocket. As far as the wires being pulled down, that is on the utility companies. Either phone or cable. They strung their lines too low and there are minimum clearance they are supposed to be above the rails. Railroad has no liabi...
An excellent document. I will be reading this over the holidays.
The Dover Realignment project is being brought forth to eliminate up to 13 road crossing and two large bridges over the Rockaway River. In addition the existing rail line parallels the Rockaway River in downtown Dover and has suffered damage due to flood waters. I can tell you from personal knowledg...
Doubt that one will even go to committee. No cosponsor(s). Is there a companion bill in the Senate?
The $1 million per mile would be for a private railroad to lay track on flat ground. If it needs fills, cuts, bridges, drainage, etc. the cost goes up substantially. When you make it a government project the costs go up as there are more regulations and hoops to jump through as well as having to pay...
Yes, as has been stated, dumping the soil a bit at a time does provide some compaction as the fill gets higher the soil below will get more compact. At some point, at least with some wooden trestles, the top the the trestle would be dismantled when placing the final few feet of fill and then ballast...

... I hearing NJT May rebid in hopes of getting lower price bids for the current project. It did not anticipate such high bids in its budget. Not a surprise. The public bidding I oversee for a local county government has been coming in 20-30% higher than our engineer's estimates. Steel prices are h...
