The MBTA Vehicle Inventory Page ([url][/http://roster.transithistory.org/url]), a good resource, it shows the following cars active:
1628, 1630, 1632, 1636, 1637, 1638, 1640, 1643, 1647, 1651

Mr Davey used to be GM of the MBTA, albeit a dozen years ago, and they are having major safety issues too. The MBTA issue is two fold. First is the infrastructure neglect due to the past Governors/Legislatures lack of commitment to public transportation. Second is safety and brain drain. It seems i...
Here in Boston the MBTA's fare gates are almost there, they have to sliding doors, much like an elevator. The problem they are about 3 to 4 feet high, easy to reach over an trip the leaving the station sensor and there is a 1 to 2 inch gap between the door edges easily grabbed and pushed open. The s...
Well I guess we are getting to milestone time. I saw 1500/01 out and about testing on Sunday (11/19/2023). They still haven't received the 100 due some gaps, 1496/97 and 1498/99, but they are almost there.
Reviving and old thread...
One of the old RDCs, the other burnt on September 10, 2022, in the Somerville area is undergoing asbestos removal. I not sure if this means they are both finally going to scrap or the good one is being taken up by some organization.
The notes I have show it as November 6, 1981 when 01101/01102, 01103/01104, 01122/01183 and 01123/01182 were withdrawn from service. On November 7th they went to a one guard (today door attendant) rendering the 01100s obsolete.
I think we are getting into "tough shit" time, CRRC will at some point say take them or leave them. Let's be honest with a foreign country, not necessarily friendly to the USA, company backed somewhat by a government they can walk away. Of course the MBTA/Commonwealth will try to recoup lo...

To many administrations kicking the can down the road to the next administration. Now it's in Healey's lap and it can't be kicked down anymore.
The problem with the open gangway set in my mind is isolation. Here in Boston when one car becomes problematic it can be isolated and we have a 5-car set instead of 6 cars. With the open gangway it goes from 10 cars to 5 cars or removed from service. I believe the articulation join is not over a tru...
As we know one of the summonsable offenses enforced by the NYPD Transit Bureau is crossing between subway cars either in motion or stationary. Will Transit officers be informed that this new equipment is going to allow riders unimpeded open access between the five unit sets so no one gets ticketed?...
More bad news about CRRC quality control: CRRC is a Chinese government based company, that can pump out 10,000 rail cars at home . No real need for QC, if a car goes down there are 9,999 left. Here when you are dealing with and order of only 450 cars QC is important. Back in the day when I worked a...
Should be plenty of older (Hawker Siddeley) trains still usable. I believe the are 48 Hawkers, 8 sets, listed as in service aka ready to go. The problem is willingness and clearance to do so. With the change in Governor that may change the willingness but I still think there is a clearance issue wi...
Here we are a week of the grand re-opening of the Orange Line and for a brief moment, Friday of last week there was full speed Wellington, my home station, to Community College. Last week there was full speed from the Community College portal to the Back Bay crossovers. Now, actually over the weeken...
