Service between Mountain View and Wanaque-Midvale would never have been discontinued if the Boonton Line had not been severed between Paterson and Totowa. When the Boonton Line was combined with the Greenwood Lake Branch service North of Mountain View on the Greenwood Lake Line was reduced to 2 thru...

The crossing of the Caldwell Line under Bloomfield Avenue was this actually a true tunnel or just a long Overpass?

That bulletin only applies to Canadian Pacific Trains. Amtrak trains are exempt as are Metra Trains.

I have a New Haven Annual report on order for 1938 the last year of operation for NYW&B. I anticipate that current liabilities will exceed total assets. Thanks for the tip on the book it sounds interesting enough to pursue.

In looking over New Haven Railroad Annual reports I must say that some of the worst financial statements were produced for this subsidiary of the New Haven. It may have been state of the art and advanced but it was never a money maker.

I heard that planners were discussing in New York a proposal to have Scranton service extended to Binghampton, NY. With Gasoline expected to be $6.00 per Gallon by 2009 and Airlines substantially cutting back service, priority to re-establish service on the cut-off should start ratchetting up. Howard

Thru service to Portland, ME via Portsmouth, NH continued after the line East of North Berwick was removed in 1944. I show that the line from Kittery, ME to North Berwick was abandoned in 1952. Since B&M started acquiring diesels during WW II does anybody know if these trains that were truncated...

My interest in the topic is in a broader context than just this route.

In terms of passenger traffic the Eastern Route Had more potential because it included Portsmouth, NH. This is not to say that I think the Eastern Route was needed all the way to Portland but it would have been nice to have thru service Boston, Portsmouth, and Portland, ME.

Doing a little Research on this Subdivision. The Eastern Route Sub is named after the Eastern Railroad Company. This route basically ran from Boston, MA to Portland, ME via Portsmouth, NH. The first segment to be abandoned was between North Berwick, NH MP 74.68 to Biddeford, ME MP 93.63. I Show this...
