Re: Scanners-what do you use when railfanning?

I picked up a BC75XLT a couple of years ago. This scanner has 10 preprogrammed banks in it, of interest to you would be the railroad bank (Along with weather, police, fire, marine, racing frequencies, air, ham AKA amateur radio, CB and one listed as "Other" that covers FRS, GMRS and MURS frequencies...

The L W line?

A scan of this photo was recently forwarded to me by a friend from my home town in northwestern Pennsylvania. My friend is a dealer (Actually more of a "dabbler") in antiques and this photo recently came into his possession. He asked if I could help identify it however I am completely stumped. It's ...

Re: 2017 Veterans Day

I realize that I'm about two weeks late but somehow have missed this until now. US Coast Guard 1974 - 1978 US Coast Guard Reserve 1986-1994 My late father, a Brooklyn, NY native, served in a US Navy amphibious battalion in WWII seeing some heavy combat in the South Pacific. After the war he went vis...

Re: Youngsville, PA depot?

One last view - the furniture factory again looking roughly southwest. That's the PRR on the right running to Erie via Corry, and the PRR siding going into the factory in the center. Barely visible on the extreme left are the telegraph poles along the DAV&P/NYC right of way.

Re: Youngsville, PA depot?

This view looks almost due east. Obviously the focus is on the furniture factory however you can see the PRR running east to Warren, PA on the left and in the distance the DAV&P/NYC trestle crossing the PRR.

Re: Youngsville, PA depot?

Here are some vintage postcard views of the DAV&P (NYC) crossing of the PRR. This trestle was later buried with fill dirt which was uncovered when the bypass was constructed, see the following post. I have vague memories of this as I was in my early teens when this was removed.

Re: Youngsville, PA depot?

Chris, Yes, that's what's left of the spot where the NYC (Originally DAV&P) crossed over the PRR (Former Philadelphia & Erie) on its way to Titusville. Since I made my original posts I've learned a lot more about the history of the line. The last freight train on the line ran on Aug. 19, 1967. It wa...

Re: Model RR 1000th issue

I wasn't faulting the magazine as a whole, however with 999 previous issues to draw from, I thought that more effort could have been put into the history and progression of the hobby for the milestone issue.

Re: Model RR 1000th issue

I'm glad to read that I'm not the only one that was disappointed with the 1000th issue effort. I grew up reading (and re-reading) my father's collection of Trains, Railroad and Model Railroader magazines that dated back to the mid-1940's, when he returned from service in WWII. I was really expecting...

Re: Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railroad

I don't know how this query ended up in the Model Railroading forum, it would be better off in the "Fallen Flags" section under the Baltimore & Ohio heading. The B&O purchased the BR&P in 1932. There is a Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh Facebook page. You might also try an Internet search for the Sa...

Re: Other Erie, PA PRR Memories

Enjoyed your recollections. One minor correction-the Russell snowplow was built in Ridgway, PA, further down the P&E line. Somewhere I have a couple of photos of the Russell company building when it was still active. A portion of the building still survives (At least it was still intact on my last v...

Re: Railroad Songs

Thanks Noel! That's the first post in this thread in over 10 years! I can't recall if Youtube was active when this thread first started, however since there was mention of the song "Pan American" in a couple of previous posts, here's the Seldom Scene's version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeSMR1...
