That's a great question. Insofar as I know, HRRC runs no scheduled freight on Saturdays. With ownership of that portion of the line now in MA's hands, one might think that such could resume. But perhaps BSRM, even with its museum in Lenox, may be more focused on Adams at this time. That's a good qu...

Let's not forget, the Conn River Line in Mass was down to 10 mph in many sections prior to "The Great Reroute" back in 2014. And the whole ex-B&M up to WRJ was so bad in the mid 1980s that the Montrealer was limited to 10 mph over much of that track before the plug was pulled and buses...

Saw that as well. My guess is they're going to sit somewhere, perhaps on NHCR, until the Notch "thaws out".

Noticed on I-91 in Greenfield, MA today that the sign advertising the "Greenfield Olver Transit Center" has been modified. Didn't get a pic, but here is the original: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.5919828,-72.6192795,3a,17y,217.93h,90.59t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1so3tvba7TGte7Spp3sYsLOQ!2e0!7i...

Just saw a blurb on Facebook from PatriotRail... GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Patriot Rail, a short line company that operates 32 railroads across the United States, is planning to revive passenger service on the Gettysburg & Northern Railroad in 2025, to capitalize on the millions of tourists who pour int...

And let's not forget the trail people who are trying to rip up active rails to extend bike paths. The Falmouth Line in Mass is fighting this battle. And in NY, two railroads (albeit scenic railroads, but still active railroads) have lost mileage due to trail people "wanting more".

I don't believe any of the Eastern north of Newburyport is a rail-trail, but its proposed as one. As far as Seabrook is concerned, I'm not sure what the problem is. The NEC passes within close proximity to Millstone in CT. Have the tracks been removed from Portsmouth south to Hampton yet? Sure, hitt...

Once the scales have tipped enough to get Manchester service going momentum might be such that Plaistow and Portsmouth could become politically feasible. And if/when that happens, going to Portsmouth via Plaistow/Rockingham Jct may be the way to go. The bike path people are anxious to get their han...

We've discussed NH commuter service involving Nashua, Manchester, and (to a lesser extent) Concord. Does it make any sense to have commuter rail extended from Haverhill to Portsmouth? I'm not saying rebuild the Eastern via Newburyport and through Seabrook, Hampton, etc, but what about an upgraded Ro...

On the land side of the embankment, there is some room to shift the track closer to Water Street, which itself seems like it could be narrowed. It would be ideal to have a fifth bay platform for Waterbury trains--it really only needs 4 car lengths, but even with four platform tracks, fluidity is im...

If I had my say: <snip> New London Windsor (CT) <snip> all need to be on the priority list. Then figure out what to do with Richmond Main, Providence and Back Bay. New London and Windsor already have high levels. Windsor's are mini-highs that were just put up a couple of years ago when it was decid...

It's just not needed. The 90 parking spots in Milford that would be lost to adding the 4th track back are much more valuable than a track that isn't needed. Adding another crossover east of Milford station to increase capacity would be a good idea. Actually, I count < 25 spots... https://www.google...

Now... I thought the channel was being relocated, more towards the center of the river, hence why they just couldn't use the existing piers to build a new bridge on. The piers were built to support 2 bridges side by side for 4 tracks (similar to Devon). Only the south side of the piers got used with...

Also Old Saybrook; proximity to New London. Not sure what the passenger counts are at either. That's my home Amtrak station, about 5 miles away from me. There's quite a bit of Amtrak business there. The Acelas don't stop, but a good number of regionals do. And there's usually a good amount of peopl...
