Wow, I just saw it a few days ago! Engine is owned by the HOG in Americus so that's where it'll be going I bet. It's about time though, the cab door and windows were open, along with some access doors on the other side.

Line is cleared all the way to Atlantic Wood in Vidalia. However, with politics sticking its ugly head in things, only the section from Swainsboro to just south of Nunez will get rehabbed. Disappointment, once again.

If it's not just west of the grain elevators in Midville then it's either at Rayonier in Kirby or Ominsource (Swainsboro Recycling) just north of downtown Swainsboro. The 1320 and 4215 that were sitting in Midville forever were finally moved a couple of months ago to the HOG in Americus.

Yes. A couple of weeks ago they started cutting trees and brush from the right of way, starting from Kirby and making it just south of the Hwy 46 overpass near Oak Park. There will be a bunch of stumps to dig up from the tracks which just adds to the trackwork to be done. No telling how much work th...

Here are some of the pics I took of the old G&F between Kirby and Vidalia. Sorry for the quality, it started raining just as soon as I got to Swainsboro and never stopped!

In related GASR news: The state has approved for the old G&F mainline south of Kirby (Swainsboro) to Vidalia to be restored. Work will commence in the next few weeks by clearing trees / brush along the right-of-way then replacing the light rail, crossties, and ballast. The bridges (I believe the...

That flat they're using to haul crossties was at one time an old Southern "woodrack" used to haul pulpwood back in the day. Matter of fact, there was a small woodyard in Metter years ago that loaded these cars. By the early 2000's they were all retired by NS. I heard the horn blowing throu...

Won't be long before it gets completely covered up with weeds! I haven't had a chance to talk with the crew. They would know what's going on with it.

Right, north of the mill. Maria Sorrell is south. The siding is still connected at Maria Sorrell; how long has the mill been closed? The mill (Grinnell) has been closed for a good bit of years now. Back in 1997 while a senior at GSU I did a senior project at the mill when it was operational. Lot of...

I wish they would put that rock down on the track between 301 and 80. It's been in bad shape, although they replaced some crossties there as well as through town recently. That section looks like it doesn't get proper drainage during those heavy south Georgia rainfalls!

I did go a ways down that dirt road to the crossing, but turned back there as I thought I might be getting to someone's farm. I've picked up the line back at Maria Sorrell or Old River heading out North on Main. Is it far from there? You were a little ways north. You should have seen the grain silo...

I rode down Matthews Rd. on Monday and found what I believe is Statesboro Grain across from Tillman-Brannen-Minick peanut collection operation. I noticed no cars there though, and could only see one end of the siding... The siding at Statesboro Grain has only one switch, with a dirt pile at the end...
