ExCon90 In New York, I think during the Koch administration, a crackdown on fare jumpers caught a guy who had no criminal record and therefore no fingerprints on file; however, the fingerprints they took from him matched those found in recently burglarized apartments in the neighborhood for which t...

gprimr1 The train really struggled through the U shaped track. It would speed up, slam on the brakes, speed up, slam on the brakes, by the time we got to Fort Totten the whole train smelled of hot brakes. The start stop issue between U Street and Columbia Heights is explained in a post by IhaveGHOS...

RandallW The only thing that would have helped would have been tunneling through Dulles and putting the Metro closer to the terminal. Those pedestrian tunnels already existed as they were originally built to serve the parking decks on the far side of entry loop used by automobiles. It's not that se...

Prime I really hope these are serialized better than the 7000s, where they only display the train number on the emergency exit doors internally, but i’m verry excited for this!! :-D The reason why car number displayed in the interior of the car is on the the bulkhead door is because it is adjacent ...

farecard Thanks. It's quite extensive, and expensive. It will take up a lot of the current platform space at the southern end. The platform square footage lost will only be in the footprints of the escalators, elevators and stairs. One thing that puzzles me is on NEW ENTRANCE PLATFORM PLAN. It has ...

farecard re: Silver Spring The Purple Line comes in from the west, swings north, then along Bonifant. https://maps.app.goo.gl/N6DVih6DhiywD75i8 What I think is a bridge for the Metropolitan Trail is crossing Colesville, on the north side of the CSX trackage. Now, in the middle of the Metro platform...

davinp Metro is exploring changes to the design of its newest series of rail cars, saying the moves would allow for more capacity while giving passengers flexibility to move between cars and avoid crowding. The shift would create open gangways in the form of enclosed vestibules between rail cars th...

When running as a 6-set, they get run with one pair attached by the B-car end to a standard Quad. Arrangement then becomes: A-B-B-A-B-A

A B car will always be coupled to a B car in 7k car 6 car consists, there is no other way to assemble 6 car train using 7k cars.

davinp This week WMATA started running 7000 series as 6 car trains so that they can retire the 2000 series trains. I thought they could only be operated as 8 car trains Operated as only 8 car trains has always been a myth as the 7k cars like the older aluminum stock only share systems across marrie...

farecard I don't know if RR wheels can be/are recapped as crankshafts are. (Built up with welding, then ground down to spec,) The only railroad wheels that I know of that typically get new tires are the driving wheels on steam locomotive. The inside diameter of the tire is typically around 6" ...

farecard So are they replacing all the wheels, or repressing the existing ones?? They are replacing the original equipment manufacturer wheel as the wheels must be replace after they wear down to below a defined minimum diameter. The whole process was a given and will happen several time during the...

See: FBI Headquarters Consolidation DEIS for details of site plans. I took a look a the proposed site plans for both of the location. The Greenbelt site will provided direct access that will be new between MD I-95/I-495 and the new headquarters, The Springfield site will provide access between VA-95...

STrRedWolf For context, the Franconia-Springfield VRE station has tracks on both sides of a two track line. Lorton's VRE station is on the eastern-most side. The bridge will let VRE and Amtrak switch sides so it doesn't stop traffic having to service from the wrong side. Oh, and they're going to pu...

That MetroForward video clip has got to be a joke. It should not take 5 seconds between the birthing of the train at the platform and opening the doors. The whole process should take no more then 2 seconds. That being said, that 10 second differences totals up to a 7 1/2 minutes shorter terminal to ...
