Re: New York & Lake Erie Railroad (NY&LE) Discussion

There is active interest in the line, and powers that be are uninterested in this for reasons unknown. Sad situation.

Re: Erie crossing PRR and NKP at Dunkirk?

This is from the Erie Railroad Rails and Trails page. Note that I'm snipping the Dunkirk area from the Dunkirk branch map at this page: http://www.railsandtrails.com/TC/EL/index.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8p5YoHtDzHo/WsE570nzrrI/AAAAAAAAAR4/VEThn9hy...

Re: JW&NW Spurs

Charles, let me know if you still have questions about any of the JW stuff. I have a lot of info, and many pictures, too. I'm happy to help.

Re: Trident OP

OK: this paper is thin on the specifics of power and all that. There are stated cost savings through its use, where you are making your money back in about year 2 of what is claimed to be a 30-year engine. Also, there is a stated 5-year period between major overhauls. Looks to be about 15% more fuel...

Re: Trident OP

I downloaded it; I don't know about the legalities of posting it even though it's a very soft barrier to get it. Let me review it a bit and check in with a friend in the industry and offer some thoughts.

Re: Youngsville, PA depot?

The odd thing is that most of the old ROW is there, except, likely, where that large road crosses 6 to the Rouse. I assume that's the bypass? You can see the old line clearly from Starbrick all the way to the Youngsville abutments, and then, of course, you can follow it all the way to Titusville if ...

But, you have to have money for a lawsuit to hurt. I'm wondering if these people are worth a couple million each?

Re: JW&NW Spurs

So, we're going to skip ahead to 1981. Conrail. For those looking, this line is in the Youngstown Division. You may notice that the snip I've posted below looks pretty similar to 1942. The JC, The Erie, The EL, they're all gone. So this is clearly served by Conrail, but I have no idea how much traff...

Re: JW&NW Spurs

You want more pictures, right? So, the plot thickens. I guarantee that the JW was still carrying freight in 1941, and all the way to their last days in 1950. However, the 1942 Erie Railroad track chart (at this site: http://railsandtrails.com/TC/EL/index.htm ) lists what I believe to be the same mat...

Map 2: South Side

Same deal: linked to a page that has the full image linked, because it's too big.

I forgot that they unloaded coal across the river and used a conveyor to bring coal to the plant. Now it makes a lot more sense.

Map Legend

This is the legend to the whole map. This happens to be sheet 1 of 4: if this val map is to be believed, the Erie was considering buying not just the trackage in the previous post, and what I'll show you next, but lines torn up that would have connected with the DAVP/NYC in Falconer, which the Erie ...

Map 1: Boatlanding

OK, you all like pictures, right? Everyone likes pictures! So, I'm going to add some. I dug into my pile of stuff and found a val map from 1941. This has to be a proposal to purchase or lease the JW trackage in Jamestown. I mean, I know what it says, but some of the line had not been served by the J...
