You can get still hot food from the cafe in the lounge; the boxed meals as I recall were for sleeper passengers but were warmed up.

So I know things have changed a few times in 50 years with drink selection on Amtrak, but I see now Amtrak is using Coke again and there is some synergy going on here…

My son and me took a trip to Seattle this past weekend; 500 on Saturday 505 on Sunday. Saturday was a Horizon set, which my 3 year old son was rather confused that it wasn’t a Talgo, but he figured it out. Sunday was the Mt. Jefferson Talgo set, his favorite! I’m glad to see food service has returne...

A long time ago, I know Microsoft had a "think tank" team that tried to tackle what was described as "sociological and governmental problems" if I remember the PR departments words right, the intial project was approaching AIDS like it was software...I have a feeling they tackled...

I remember something about an NJT Commuter Train where someone got caught in a door, assistant conductor did notice the light was indicating an issue but because there was a chronic false positive on said door, he didn’t check it and used the override. So guess what happened? Yup...passenger was dra...

I knew a lot of the early FRA regulations had roots in US Post Office regulations for RPOs; but this is kind of getting a laugh out of me, but does explain a few things.

Gate Gourmet from what I remember, didn’t have much experience in non-airline operations which contributed to issues such as being late to the start terminal to deliver food...

LSG has lots of experience in this regard...

I’ve mentioned elsewhere I think there is merit to an East-West AutoTrain; I know I suggested Chicago area eastern terminal but perhaps St Louis might be the better option. I’m going with an Las Vegas western terminal so that it can both serve California and Arizona hotspots. Another educated guess ...

Amtrak used to use Gate Gourmet which was even worse. airlines do a lot of things well, food isn't one of them. I remember that era. I thought it was no worse than Aramark but had other options. LSG has quite the non-airline food service business to keep its airport commissaries busy. I think they ...

You know, I’m not opposed to changing the dining options, Amtrak for the most part has changed with the times in Food Service; I saw the changeover from the traditional dining car to fast causal on demand dining coming and I liked it actually. What I don’t like about these changes is the inconsisten...

Amtrak in the past identified a east-west route as Chicago-Phoenix as that had a similar pattern of “being annoying to drive by snowbirds”
