I'll repeat my previous thoughts on the matter, posted elsewhere: I thought the best way to get capacity would be to build a twin-bore freight/passenger tunnel from St. George to Brooklyn 65th Street, and 2 more bores for SIRT, then build double-track across the old North Shore for LIRR/Amtrak/NYA. ...

Yeah, it seems like a very half-full glass. The express tracks are there and would benefit quite a few people. But Bergen and Carroll are the two heavy lifters and both would see train service cut by adding express trains. I've spent enough time waiting for an F or G that the thought of having half ...

Interesting that they'll consider DMU but took freight/passenger right off the table. I thought the best way to get capacity would be to build a twin-bore freight/passenger tunnel from St. George to Brooklyn 65th Street, and 2 more bores for SIRT, then build double-track across the old North Shore f...

OK...I asked earlier if the CMRR had spoken to a commerce attorney, and I was poo-poohed and told that they have a mighty fine lawyer. But in speaking with some attorney friends in the industry, here is the reality. Your Local Attorney does not know how to defend a railroad when it comes to abandonm...

Not part of your original question, but the 3 tracks were there when I first visited in 1987 and gone by the time I got back around 1989 or 90.

Is that UP or CN at the crossing? Never was sure where ownership changed, but sure never thought I'd be asking THAT question back in 1987.

Looks like the other shoe is dropping. R service under the river will be suspended for 14 months:

My mistake. Did not realize that R160s were not 75' cars. Regardless, they still have far higher total capacity than R46 or R68. When R68 trains are subbed during rush hour, they cannot load the total volume of passengers that the R160s carry, witness by the number of people left on the platform by ...

There's no reason why you wouldn't consistently work a yard from only one end, even if you can access it from both directions off the main. One switch lead should do fine.

B, D, and F all run 600' trains. F is not the "longest" How long has it been since you've ridden the 6th Avenue? All F trains are 750'. Woe the day that the rare 600' train of Pullmans arrives during rush hour, as it kills the schedule. It can't lift the load, and just gets more delayed a...

Which brings me back to my question: Why is it important to have F express service now ? Has the line gotten crowded? And I'd still like to know how trains bypassed Smith-9th during the recent rebuilding I'll answer your second question first. During some of the rebuilding, there was a shoofly conn...

It appears to be permanent, by inertia if nothing else. Supposedly the funding has been continued. Now, if we could just get express service on all that new track with its new signal system....

What KIND of lawyer?

Lawyers specialize in many things. I mentioned a commerce attorney for a very specific reason.

Dogbert has hit it on the head. His post has quite a bit of good advice. CMRR also needs to consult specifically with a commerce attorney who is knowledgeable in STB matter. This is a difficult situation, and I had no idea how bad the relationship was with CMRR's landlords and neighbors. The railroa...

Congrats on achieving a long-sought goal. I'm impressed that while schedules sometimes slip the projects always get done! And while the work went in to getting the car mover repaired, you win better bragging rights dragging stuff out with the 401. Did someone find a home for the Lion Gardiner? I not...
