Hello and Happy New Year!! I used to go to school in Montgomery WV and every now and then would take Route 61 which runs parallel to the Kanawha Subdivision into Charleston WV. Along the way I used to see a building which looked like a hotel or motel with "CSX" written on the outside of th...

Ultimately, the LIRR does have a vested interest in grade crossing saftey and fewer grade crossing collisions. While there will undoubtedly be some grade crossing collisions, it never hurts to consider ways to make grade crossings safer and more visible. Not all drivers are familiar with the area t...

I certainly do think that any driver who ends up on the tracks in the path of an on-coming train is "at fault". My concern is for the welfare of the train crews and passengers! ---and if striped boxes painted at the crossings would safe-guard them, it would be worth it. Well, "Do Not...

The transponders are in the field, they have been completed in the field since about 2012 I think. The Data Radio portion has not been in service and possibly not even in some places yet. The acses in non acses territory nonsense has been happening since then. You would just think with all the pres...

Bringing this back from the dead: The question came up in the Southwest Chief thread about whether I-ETMS (as used on BNSF and UP) would allow for speeds over 79 mph. Does anyone have information about this? ITCS obviously does, as does ACSES, but they won't be in major use on freight lines. Consid...

Thanks. I wasn't sure if the freights actually went through the station.

Hello,

In March I will be coming to San Jose, Ca. While there I'm looking to do some railfanning where I can see a mix of passenger and freight. Any suggestions? I'll be traveling by foot from the downtown area.

If your an employee, why not ask the company instead of asking on a public forum? Second, even if the LIRR banned alcohol, its sold in Penn. Station and anyone of legal age can purchase it, drink it, and get into a car and drive home. So is your complaint about the railroad selling it or its consump...

Forgot about that scheme. Actually I didn't know they were painted that way since most of the ones I saw went from blue and white to the current scheme. Thanks for the pic.

I'll be ordering mine in a couple of days, doe anybody know if Athearn will offer the LIRR MP15's in the other colors they ran in? I am going to send off an email to them asking them to do a future run of the LIRR's SW1001 gray and orange diesels. A owner of a local hobby shop said they came in dif...

The technology (iPads, improving Julie, etc) would be expensive. And, if the dining car crews have in fact been shrunk, who is actually going to update the software to indicate menu changes? The attendant who lies about what's available in the diner could be dealt with by better supervision. I beli...

I agree with Arlington 100%. To add, my pro-iPad experience is based on my last Crescent trip. Here's what happened: The sleeping car attendant came to take my order for dinner (served in the sleeping car). She told me that I'd be having baked chicken. (I wasn't offered a menu or any choices.) I as...

Personal preferences differ; some may prefer human interaction, and some may not. If Amtrak cuts staff and increases investments in iPads and other technology, however, both types of customers can be satisfied. There should still be dining car staff for people who prefer human interaction, and iPad...
