Better to opt not to run rather than damage equipment and strand passengers on cold and dark trains. Clearly this is the harshest ongoing winter the T has ever had to deal with and I think it's a wise step to suspend all train and light rail operations for a day and give the T a chance to clear the ...

Most of the storm has left the NY City area and the snow fall amounts are below expectations. Glad to see MN took the threat of the storm seriously rather than trying to keep trains running.

Keolis fined again

by Clean Cab ¦  Fri Jan 23, 2015 11:21 pm ¦  Forum: Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) ¦  Topic: MBTA Fines Keolis Over $800K For Delays, Other Problems ¦  Replies: 47 ¦  Views: 18606

The MBTA announced today (1/23/15) that they were fining Keolis over $800,000 for trains that were late, improperly cleaned and poorly maintained. This is the second time Keolis has been hit with fines since they took over last July. Wonder is Keolis is having buyer's remorse?

Look at the facts. Both West Haven and Fairfield Metro's ridership is way below expectations. Building two more stations to handle a small amount of riders is just wasteful. There will now be 18 stations between State Street and Stamford and another 15* stops from Stamford to GCT. Enough is enough!!...

It's ridiculous to add any more stations to the New Haven Line. The ride from NH to GCT is long enough, and adding these two new stations will add at least 5 minutes to what is already a long trip. I'd rather see money spent on raising the track speeds and building faster interlockings.

MN is also going to create a designated yard radio channel instead of using other road channels. The frequency will be 161.040 (AAR 62). There is no firm date for this change however, but paperwork has been filed with the FRA and FCC.

Light engine running long nose forward got by a stop signal in GCT and clipped an outbound train. No severe damage, no derailment and no one injured.

How are they gone unload in New London, the doors will be 3 feet away from platform. Amtrak and SLE have "plans" (I hate using that word when CDOT is involved) to build a new platform in New London presumably west of the current NL Station. Don't hold your breath for this to happen anytim...

M8's on SLE will only be used for trains going through to GCT and possibly Penn Station. There are no plans to use M8's on shuttle runs between Old Saybrook (and New London) to New Haven.

There has been a fair amount less radio traffic on District F (CP 235 - CP266) ever since the Danbury Branch began using a signal system rather than being issued train orders. But that has not lasted very long, now the radio traffic has once again increased due to all the track work and work areas.

Currently SLE trains are either 3 or 4 cars plus one engine. The seating on the ex-VRE cars is close too those of an M8. I've heard that if M8's ever do operate on SLE, they would be through trains to GCT. So that would mean they'd need at least 6 cars to make all the SLE stops and the additional MN...

As far as I know, train #1327 is the only 12 car train on the New Haven Line. It comes out of Stamford Yard and only makes Harrison, Mamaroneck, Larchmont & GCT usually around 7:45 AM.
